The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and recovered several incriminating items following a report from a former victim.
The breakthrough came on February 13, 2025, when 25-year-old Jameson Godwill of Ado Village, Nasarawa, identified one of his alleged kidnappers, Musa Babagana, at Mararaba Junction. Godwill and his younger sibling had been abducted on January 25 while traveling in a suspected commercial vehicle from Mararaba in Karu Local Government Area to CBN Junction, Abuja.
According to a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer SP Ramhan Nansel, the kidnappers allegedly robbed the victims of two mobile phones—an iPhone 12 and an iPhone 11 Pro—as well as ₦63,000 in cash before handing them ₦1,000 for transportation back to Mararaba.
Upon spotting Babagana, Godwill raised an alarm, causing the suspect to flee. However, swift police intervention led to the arrest of Babagana and two other suspects, Iliyasu Baba and Ibrahim Mohammad. A fourth suspect, identified as Haruna, managed to escape and remains at large.
During interrogation, Babagana and Mohammad allegedly confessed to being part of a kidnapping syndicate operating across Abuja and neighboring areas, including Dutse Alhaji, Kubwa, Gwarimpa, Mandala, and Suleja in Niger State. They admitted to abducting victims, detaining them, and demanding ransoms before release.
Police recovered several items from the suspects, including:
- A Toyota Corolla with registration number FK186 EKO
- Two military camouflage uniforms
- One military desert camouflage uniform
- One black paramilitary uniform
- A military identification card
- A paramilitary cap
- Four SIM cards from different network providers
- Two jackknives
- A pair of handcuffs
- One black boot and a desert boot
Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and prosecution. He also commended the officers for their swift action, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents.
Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
