A Catholic priest in the Diocese of Awka, Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Jude Muokwe, has been accused of physically assaulting a 50-year-old widow, Mrs. Ikeorah Maureen, leaving her with multiple injuries.
The incident, which has sparked outrage on social media, reportedly took place at Angel Primary School, Ifitedunu, a Catholic-owned institution where the widow works as a teacher. A viral video shows the woman in tears, displaying the injuries allegedly inflicted by the priest.
Sources indicate that the altercation occurred during a meeting among staff members, who were discussing a proposed salary increment. The priest allegedly stormed into the classroom and flogged the widow with a whip in the presence of other staff.
When contacted by GISTMANIA, Rev. Fr. Muokwe did not deny the allegation but declined to comment. “I cannot speak to you, I can’t speak especially to someone I do not know about this matter,” he stated.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, with many calling for an investigation into the priest’s actions.
