Naval operatives attached to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Igbokoda in Ondo State have intercepted a wooden boat transporting illegally refined petroleum products.
Acting on intelligence from maritime security sources, the team, led by the Base Operations Officer, seized 1,400 litres of illicit petroleum stored in 44 jerry cans. The interception is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Navy to curb crude oil theft and illegal refining activities across the country’s waterways.
FOB Commander, Navy Captain Aliyu Usman, warned oil thieves to steer clear of Nigerian waters, emphasizing that the seized vessel and its contents would be destroyed in accordance with military directives.
He also acknowledged the contributions of Tantita Security Services and Gallery Security Services, whose intelligence efforts have strengthened the fight against economic sabotage in the region.
"The Nigerian Navy remains resolute in securing the maritime environment and eliminating illegal operations. Those involved in crude oil theft must desist immediately or face the consequences," Usman stated.
The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s waterways and protecting national assets from criminal activities.
