The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 24-year-old Thai woman, Ms. Pattaphi Wimonnat, for attempting to smuggle 43 parcels of Canadian Loud, a highly potent strain of cannabis, into Nigeria. The seized drug shipment weighed 46.60 kilograms and was intercepted at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos.
According to a statement issued by NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, Wimonnat was arrested during the inward clearance of passengers on a Qatar Airways flight from Thailand via Doha, Qatar. NDLEA operatives discovered the illicit substances concealed in her luggage at the airport’s Terminal 2 arrival hall.
During interrogation, Wimonnat reportedly confessed to being recruited by an international drug cartel, which promised to pay her $3,000 upon successful delivery of the consignment in Nigeria.
The NDLEA has intensified efforts to track down other individuals connected to the smuggling operation. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring that Nigeria does not become a transit hub for illicit substances.
