At least 14 passengers lost their lives in a fatal accident on the Lapai-Agaie-Bida Federal Highway, Niger State, on Saturday, February 22, 2025. The tragic crash, confirmed by the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kumar Tsukwam, was attributed to excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking.

The incident, which occurred at 10:59 a.m. between Kusobogi and Nami, involved a Toyota Hiace bus traveling from Minna to Agaie and a DAF tanker en route from Lagos to Kaduna. According to the FRSC report, the driver of the Hiace bus attempted to overtake another vehicle at high speed but collided head-on with the oncoming tanker.

“The impact was devastating, leading to the immediate deaths of 14 passengers, including five females, one male child, and eight males,” the FRSC statement revealed. “Six male passengers sustained serious injuries and were quickly transported to the General Hospital in Lapai for urgent medical attention.”

Emergency responders evacuated the injured while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the hospital morgue.

FRSC Commander Tsukwam urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, avoid reckless overtaking, and maintain their vehicles properly to prevent further loss of lives on the roads.
