A night of worship turned into a nightmare when gunmen attacked Elyon Paradise Ministry during a Friday night vigil, shooting the pastor and kidnapping six church members.
The incident, which occurred around 10 p.m. near Delta State Polytechnic, has left the community in shock, raising concerns over the security of religious centers in the area.
Apostle Divine Omodia, the church’s head pastor, sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital after being shot in the leg and losing two fingers during the attack.
His wife, Pastor Faith Omodia, described the harrowing experience, saying,“I was lying down with my baby in the church hall when I heard gunshots. Suddenly, bullets started flying inside the auditorium."
The assailants reportedly fired indiscriminately before rounding up worshippers and forcibly abducting six individuals, including two security guards. The kidnapped victims have been identified as **Helen Onwuamaeze, Ariyo Emmanuel, Chike Okolo, and Blessing Waye**, along with the unnamed guards.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command has yet to confirm the attack. When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, stated, “No report has been made at any police station regarding this attack.”
Residents and church members are calling on security agencies to take urgent action to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
