
Tragedy struck in Ogun State as a 31-year-old man, Sunday Jimoh, drowned while attempting to retrieve his phone from a well.
The incident, which occurred around 10:00 a.m. on February 22, 2025, was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola.
According to reports, Kabiru Aladeshayi Ayigbere, a resident of Junction Area, Oja-Odan, witnessed Jimoh trying to climb into the well beside his shop. Despite warnings about the danger, Jimoh insisted on retrieving his phone, which had accidentally fallen into the water.
"Unfortunately, while Aladeshayi stepped away, Jimoh proceded with his risky attemptand drowned," Odutola stated.
Upon receiving the report, police detectives arrived at the scene and contacted rescue workers, who retrieved the deceased's body. A preliminary investigation ruled out foul play, confirming that it was an accidental drowning.
The family of the deceased has been notified and has requested permission to bury him in accordance with Islamic rites.
The Ogun State Police Command expressed condolences to Jimoh’s loved ones and urged the public to exercise caution in hazardous situations.
