
The Edo State Police Command has arrested a man, Kelvin Izekor, for allegedly killing his wife, Success Izekor, in Benin City.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, Moses Yamu, the suspect was taken into custody after being rescued from an angry mob that attempted to lynch him.
The police received a distress call from concerned residents at around 10:00 p.m. on February 22, 2025, alerting them to the incident at No. 50 Upper Mission Extension in Benin City.
“Upon arrival, operatives of the Aduwawa Division found the lifeless body of the victim lying in a pool of blood, with deep cuts on her head,” the statement read.
Efforts by the police to calm the enraged crowd and extract the suspect were intense, as tensions ran high. After securing the scene, officers transported the victim to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
The Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, has condemned the rising cases of domestic violence, vowing that a thorough investigation will be conducted. She assured the public that anyone found guilty would face the full weight of the law.
Meanwhile, the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
