An Indian national, Chandra Singh, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for procurement fraud by the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja.
Justice I.O. Ijelu delivered the judgment on Thursday, February 27, 2025, convicting Singh on multiple counts of bribery and unlawful retention of stolen funds amounting to ₦816,361,386.75.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Singh on November 24, 2022, on a 19-count charge, alleging that he exploited his position at African Natural Resources and Mines Limited to secure contracts for his company, CVN Engineering Limited.
According to court documents, Singh influenced the awarding of a ₦365.7 million supply contract to CVN Engineering Limited and another ₦243.1 million contract to Neo Paints Nigeria Limited. He was also found guilty of dishonestly retaining $4,150 belonging to his employer.
Despite pleading not guilty, the prosecution, led by Bilikisu Buhari, presented compelling evidence, including testimonies from nine witnesses and documentary proof, to establish Singh’s fraudulent dealings.
After a thorough review, Justice Ijelu found him guilty on five counts and sentenced him to 10 years in prison without an option of fine. The court further directed him to refund ₦345 million in restitution to his employer.
The ruling brings an end to Singh’s trial, which exposed a complex scheme of contract manipulation and financial misconduct.
