Veteran Nollywood actress, Ayo Adesanya has revealed that the domestic abuse she endured in her failed marriage led her into alcoholism.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Adesanya shared painful details of her past, disclosing that her ex-husband subjected her to physical abuse for a decade.
The actress recounted how he attempted to control her career, even threatening to harm her. “He stopped me from acting and once threatened to pluck out my eyes with a knife,” she revealed.
Despite the violence, Adesanya said she remained in the marriage out of fear of public shame. “Anywhere my ex-husband saw me, he would beat me. He beat me so much that I became an alcoholic. But I couldn’t leave because I was scared people would say I couldn’t keep a man,” she said.
Her revelations have sparked discussions about domestic violence and societal pressures that force many women to remain in abusive relationships.
