A key witness, identified as "ABC," has revealed in court how notorious bandit leader Kachalla Halilu secured a military gun truck from Niger Republic, allegedly to bolster terrorist operations within Nigeria.
Testifying before the Federal High Court in Abuja, the witness detailed how Halilu acquired the vehicle for a staggering ₦28.5 million, paying through a combination of cash and electronic transfers.
The testimony emerged during the trial of four suspects — Musa Kamarawa, Abubakar Hashimu (alias "Doctor"), Samuel Chinedu, and Lucky Chukwuma — all accused of having ties to fugitive bandit leader Bello Turji. They face 11 terrorism-related charges brought by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
Justice Emeka Nwite denied bail to the accused and ordered an accelerated hearing of the case.
Prosecutors alleged that between 2018 and 2022, the defendants facilitated supplies of illegal drugs, military uniforms, food, and building materials to terrorist groups.
The witness described traveling with Kamarawa to Cotonou for currency exchange and vehicle purchases, culminating in the procurement of the military truck from Gaya, Niger Republic. Upon delivery to Halilu's base in Sububu Forest, the bandits reportedly celebrated by firing gunshots and posing for photos with the vehicle.
The witness stated that after hearing of Kamarawa’s arrest, he voluntarily turned himself in to authorities.
The court adjourned the case to May 23 and 26 for cross-examination, as prosecutors push for a swift conclusion to the trial.
