In a sweeping operation aimed at restoring peace and curbing criminal activities, the Kano State Joint Task Force Committee on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has apprehended 53 suspected thugs across key areas of the metropolis.
The coordinated raids, conducted between March 13 and 14, targeted notorious hideouts and black spots in neighborhoods including Yakasai, Kofar Mata, Zango, Zage, Zanzado, Rimi Market, Shahuchi Park, Kano Line, Sharada, Ja’in, and Dan Agundi.
Chairman of the Task Force, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, confirmed that the operation was driven by intelligence reports, leading to the capture of suspected criminals and drug dealers.
Among the items seized were large quantities of illicit substances such as Cannabis Sativa, Codeine syrup, rubber solution, and suspected Exol tablets. Security operatives also recovered dangerous weapons, including cutlasses, clubs, scissors, and charms — along with a delivery vehicle and five cattle believed to be connected to a known drug dealer.
A notorious drug den in Zanzado was raided, yielding an even larger stash of narcotics, marking a significant breakthrough in the Task Force’s ongoing efforts to dismantle crime networks in the state.
Dr. Kofar Mata described the arrests as a "turning point" in the fight against thuggery and substance abuse, emphasizing the government's unwavering commitment to restoring security.
“The success recorded in these operations represents a major stride in our mission to sanitize Kano streets and reclaim our communities from criminal elements,” he stated.
He assured that all suspects would face prosecution once investigations are concluded, reaffirming the Task Force’s dedication to creating a safer, drug-free environment for Kano residents.
