In a decisive strike against kidnapping syndicates, troops from the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Operation SAFE HAVEN have arrested two suspected kidnapping kingpins and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a late-night raid in Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The operation, carried out on Saturday, March 15, at approximately 8:30 p.m., targeted a hideout at Katume High Grounds — a known base where kidnapped victims were allegedly held while ransom negotiations unfolded.
Military sources confirmed the arrest of two suspects, identified as Bashir Mohammed and Ismail Mohammad. The duo is believed to be key figures in a network orchestrating abductions across the region. An AK-47 rifle and a magazine were seized during the raid.
"The suspects are currently in custody and providing crucial intelligence to aid ongoing efforts to dismantle the syndicate and recover more weapons," a source disclosed.
The operation is part of Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A — a wider security campaign under Operation SAFE HAVEN aimed at curbing criminal activities in Plateau and neighboring states.
Security forces have assured residents that more follow-up actions are underway to track down other members of the gang and ensure lasting peace in the area.
