In a recent enforcement action, the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) apprehended a security guard employed by Slot Phones and Accessories at No. 39 Shasha Road, Akowonjo, Egbeda, for illegally dumping refuse on the road median along Akowonjo Road. The arrest was announced by the state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who highlighted that, despite the presence of a waste storage facility at the business premises, the suspect resorted to improper disposal methods. Additionally, the facility manager failed to provide evidence of payment to the designated Private Sector Participant (PSP) responsible for waste collection. The suspect is currently undergoing prosecution by LAWMA in accordance with state laws.

This incident is part of a broader crackdown by LAWMA to curb indiscriminate waste disposal in Lagos. The agency has intensified night surveillance operations, leading to the arrest of multiple offenders in recent days. For instance, on February 7, 2025, at approximately 9:20 p.m., LAWMA's enforcement team apprehended an individual named Engineer Akinsola for unlawfully dumping refuse at the road median along Egbeda-Akowonjo Road, near Micom Bus Stop. Investigations revealed that his residence lacked a designated waste storage facility, and there was no record of registration with an authorized PSP for waste disposal. Akinsola admitted that his landlord had instructed him to dispose of the waste at the road median and is being prosecuted accordingly.
