Six Dead, one Missing In Niger State Boat Mishap

Six people have died, and one person remains missing following a tragic boat accident in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.

The incident was contained in a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Tuesday on X.

According to Makama, the accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on March 16, 2025, when a canoe carrying 11 passengers from Chegama Village’s rice farm to Rwakwa Village capsized, throwing all occupants into the water.

Local divers and police launched a swift rescue operation, successfully saving four passengers.

However, six individuals; Zaliya Aliyu, Hajara Mohammed, Amina Yakotsu, Fatima Ahmed, Lare Idris, and Ahmed Mohammed tragically lost their lives.

“Their bodies were recovered and buried according to Islamic rites,” he added.

Search operations are ongoing to find the last missing passenger, a female, as efforts to locate her continue in the area.
