A Nigerian man has sparked widespread anger online after sharing a disturbing account of police brutality and extortion during a late-night encounter.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the man described how he and his friends were allegedly assaulted by police officers, forced to kneel on the roadside, and coerced into paying ₦60,000 — despite no evidence of wrongdoing.
According to his account, officers slapped his friend, Kay, who was seated in the front of their vehicle. The group, including his producers, was then ordered to kneel on the street before being taken toward a police station. Midway, the officers reportedly demanded and accepted ₦60,000 before letting them go.
A video attached to the post captured moments from the ordeal, intensifying public outrage. The post quickly gained traction, with Nigerians flooding the comments section to condemn the alleged abuse of power, demanding justice and police reform.
The incident adds to the growing list of police misconduct complaints in the country, reigniting calls for accountability and an end to unlawful harassment by security forces.
Last night, The Police slapped my friend Kay in the front seat of our car, told me and my producers to kneel down on the road, took us in their car to the station before settling for 60k on the way there, and they found nothing on us before doing all of this, bunch of power drunk… https://t.co/nYRlFWZPp2 pic.twitter.com/P1Qp8RChSL
