The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has said its members would not be part of the ‘Take It Back Movement’, nationwide protest scheduled to begin today Monday considering the fragile state of the country, particularly in the Northern region and the potentials for further unrest.

The National President of NYCN, Isah Abubakar said this in a statement on Sunday in Kaduna while suing for peace especially among the youths.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has called on the organisers of the planned protest to rescind their decision, describing the timing of the demonstration as ill-conceived and mischievous.

Abubukar said, “We wish to stress the need to prioritise peace and unity during these critical times.

“We are urging Nigerian youths to explore alternative and non-violent means to express their concerns.

“We are deeply concerned about the escalating tensions across various regions and the current socio-political climate.”

He stated that NYCN was committed to empowering and developing Nigerian youths, in spite of the frustrations and aspirations of young Nigerians.

“In the light of the current situation, the nation requires calm, dialogue and patience rather than actions that could further destabilise the fragile peace many patriotic Nigerians are working hard to uphold,” Abubakar added.

The national president, however, said NYCN recognised the legitimacy of the grievances that led to the calls for protest.

He ephasised that peace and national stability should remain the highest priorities.

Reflecting on the recent recent “End Bad Governance” protest, he said, the council expressed concern over the loss of lives and property valued in millions of Naira.

Abubukar sadly recalled that the protests were hijacked by hoodlums and miscreants.

“No one desires a repeat of such tragic events,” he said.

Abubakar emphasised the crucial need for unity as one force to advocate rights and work together to build stronger and more inclusive Nigeria.

He, therefore, urged Nigerian youths to remain calm, avoid any form of violence, and continue engaging in peaceful and legitimate activities.

According to Abubukar, this is to allow the government to address the pressing issues at hand.

He also urged young Nigerians to come together in solidarity not protests, but through peaceful and constructive engagements that could foster lasting change.

Abubakar reiterated the council’s commitment to working alongside government agencies and stakeholders to ensure that the voices of the youths were heard through peaceful and appropriate channels.

There's something you still don't get about the common Nigerian man mentality, I'll explain a bit. Try and do a little survey. Try find out who the majority of those complaining now are. Majority are south easterners. Many yorubas aren't, you know why?? Their brother is in power. They'd rather he's in power than another tribe. And the northerners?? Well, they've been tasting power so they know how it feels, and they have hope of regaining that power. I pray the Almighty spare our lives to the time a South easterner will be in power. That day, you'll see that majority of igbo brothers will stop complaining, because they'd rather their brother is there, no matter how bad he's performing. You think this is about north?? You don't understand power, and you probably don't understand what it does to people. You'll hold power, and you'll see what I'm telling you now. I pray you remember I told you this.

I understand your point. But you must also know that there are Liberals and there are bigots. Bigots tend to exhibit the character that you explained, liberal minds tend to be fair in accessment and Judgement. There is also a middle ground consisting of people that are neither bigots not Liberals, but people that are Selfish, so not matter the tribe, if it is not them, then everything is bad. So they can fight their tribesmen and anyone else. Its important to point out the fact that the take it back movement is pioneered by a Yorubaman. Even the SUG president, Sowore is fighting this government tooth and nail. Finally, I am an Igboman and truth is that 90% of Igbo's are not wired that way. We can fry our blood if he or she is not doing well. We knew what Akpabio is, but preffered him to Orji Kalu because we knew he is worse. We rather an Edo man Govern Imo than their incumbent, that is who we are.
