Survivors, The Last of Us is finally back. Season 1, which premiered a little over two years ago, told the story of Joel (Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), who travel across the country in hopes of ridding a deadly fungal infection from the wold.
The finale ended in the same fashion as its source material, 2012's The Last of Us video game. Joel and Ellie make it to Seattle, but as soon as he realizes that finding a cure means the death of Ellie, he wipes out the group—a.k.a the Fireflies—that could save humanity.
At the beginning of the episode, viewers were reminded of Joel's major decision in the Season 1 finale, where he rescued Ellie from the Fireflies by killing the doctors who were about to operate on her to create a cure—an operation that would have taken her life.
One of the doctors killed that day was Abby's father, and this tragedy is what sets Abby and her group on a path of revenge.
Abby, now introduced in the show and played by Kaitlyn Dever, was seen with her former Firefly friends mourning their losses.
While some of them seemed ready to move on, Abby made it clear that she wasn’t. She wanted to find Joel and make him suffer for what he did, convincing her group—now tied to the Washington Liberation Front—to help her track him down.
The first episode of The Last of Us Season 2 has arrived, picking up five years after the dramatic finale of Season 1.

The story follows the lives of Joel and Ellie in the town of Jackson, Wyoming, but things are far from peaceful as tensions build, both from within and outside their community.
