MAKURDI — The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Katsina Alu, yesterday escaped death by the whiskers at his home town, Alu, in Oshongu Local Government Area of Benue when a branch of a Melina tree in his palatial country home mysteriously fell on him and his wife.
The duo were said to have been rushed to a hospital in Gboko but Mrs. Mimi Alu died before medical attention could get to her.
According to an eye witness, Justice Alu and his wife visited home to attend the wedding ceremony of an in-law in a community not far from his village.
Our source added that after the function, the CJN and his wife went back to their abode and sat outside thier residence which is surrounded by trees, and at around 8 p.m. there was heavy wind within the area.
He said: “Justice Alu and his wife were sitting outside, relaxing and attending to visitors when wind started blowing. They both got up to go inside the house when suddenly a branch of the Melina tree came crashing down on them.
“The CJN and his wife went into coma immediately but the people rushed to their rescue and took both of them to Nyon Hospital in Gboko where the wife was confirmed dead by medical doctors on duty at the time,” our source said.
Justice Alu was, however, lucky as he was revived by the doctors and is said to be in stable condition and under medical observation.
The late Mrs. Alu was a successful business woman and in her mid fifties before her sudden death.
