The Niger State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murdering of a 12-year-old boy in Sambuga village in Rafi Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Richard Oguche, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Minna that the prime suspect in the crime, Mohammed Mairiga, from Sambuga village, had confessed to the crime and would soon be charged to court. He said the suspect had earlier requested from the father of the deceased, Musa Kaila, that the boy should be allowed to accompany him to a political function. However, the boy's father turned down the request on the grounds that he would not allow his son to be involved in any political activities. Oguche said Kaila discovered a few days later that his son was missing from home, and reported the case to the police, where he filed a complaint against the suspect. He confirmed that Mairiga allegedly confessed to have committed the crime in collaboration with others, during which they kidnapped and killed the deceased on April 5 in a forest. The PPRO said the suspect gave the names of other suspects as Yakubu Abaki; Musa Ahmed; Yakubu Haruna and Babaye Mai-bread. He said the prime suspect confessed to the police that they also allegedly removed some of the boy's organs for ritual purposes. Oguche said the corpse of the boy was discovered in a decomposing state and taken to Kagara General Hospital for autopsy, and later released to the family for burial. He said the suspects would soon appear in court. The Chairman of the council area, Alhaji Ali Kagara, described the incident as sad and unfortunate, saying the local government had since swung into action by increasing patrol by the security agents and vigilance groups. Meanwhile, two students were on Tuesday remanded in prison custody by an Abuja Senior Magistrates' Court on a three-count charge of joint act, causing hurt and mischief, the NAN reports.
The suspects, 21-year-old Alfred Achado and the other a minor (name withheld), were accused of stabbing, the Proprietor of Jeny Guest Inn, Kurudu, Abuja, Mr. Ndeibuisi Nnebe.
