Teenager arraigned for stealing judge’s property

A 19-year-old teenager, Rebecca Owusu, was on Monday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing property of Justice Titilola Ojikutu-Oshode between 2010 and April 14, 2011 at 6A, Femi Okunnu Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
It was alleged that during the period, Owusu stole clothes valued at N300,000, a cash sum of N500,000 and jewellery worth N1m property of Ojikutu-Oshode.
Besides, it was also alleged that Owusu unlawfully broke into the living quarters of the same residence around 10pm on April 21, 2011 with intent to commit felony to wit: stealing after she was granted bail on the same date at the Ikoyi Police Station.
Owusu is facing a two-count charge of stealing and illegal break-in.
According to the charge sheet, which was read in court, the offences were said to be contrary to and punishable under sections 390(9) and 411 of the Criminal Code Cap. 32 Vol. II Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2003.
However, when the plea of the accused was taken in court, she pleaded not guilty to all the charges preferred against her.
The Magistrate, Mrs. C.J. Momodu, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N800,000 with two sureties in like sum. She added that the two sureties must furnish the court with verifiable addresses and evidence of tax payments
