President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday declared that he had no option than to lead Nigeria in the next four years with the fear of God, since his emergence was God-driven.
The President said he would continue to govern Nigeria, its human and material resources with the fear of God because he believed God had a purpose for his emergence as leader of Nigeria at this time.
President Jonathan stated this when he received the Very Reverend Justin Welby, special envoy from the Archbishop of Canterbury, Most Reverend Rowan Williams,  at the State House, Abuja.
He said: “I could not have attained this position without God, and God has a purpose for Nigeria. I believe God wants me to make an impact in the lives of Nigerians.”
President Jonathan expressed appreciation to the Archbishop of Canterbury for his interest in Nigeria, especially during and after the elections.
He spoke about Nigeria’s leadership responsibility in Africa, his desire to improve future elections in the country and the unfortunate post-election violence which he described as one of the challenges every nation must face on its path to nationhood.
Earlier, the Very Reverend Justin Welby had said the Archbishop of Canterbury was “encouraged and delighted at the extraordinary leadership” which President Jonathan provided during the elections and the difficult post-election days.
He prayed for peace in Nigeria, wisdom and strength for the President in the years ahead and gave the Archbishop’s assurances of support for Nigeria in the British House of Lords, where he sits.
Also today, President Jonathan received a special message from President Alpha Conde of Guinea Conakry. The message was delivered by Mr. Mamadou Traore, Minister in the Presidency.
