Five people were killed and 12 seriously injured in the outbreak of fresh violence in the Plateau State capital on Tuesday night.

The violence was a clash between groups of youths around Nasarawa and Angwan Rukuba areas. Many innocent passers-by were caught in the melée leaving them either injured or their vehicles damaged.

Spokesman of the Special Task Force in charge of security in the state, Captain Charles Ekeocha who confirmed the incident said the violence broke out around 7.pm after a resident of Angwan Rukuba invited one Dahiru Musa to handle a repair for him only for him to be killed by some people.

A resident of the area told Vanguard that the man was actually invited to duplicate a car key and upon finishing the job was attacked and killed by some people.

A passing commercial motorcycle rider was said to have sighted the corpse following which he went to Narasawa Gwom and Bauchi Road where the kins of the slain man reside to announce the killing.

Groups of youths in the area were said to have mobilized for a reprisal taking to the streets and attacking those considered to be in opposite camp as they marched towards Angwan Rukuba area. Men of the task force later moved in to restore normalcy and took the injured to the hospital for treatment.

The violence coming after weeks of seeming respite from frequent violence jolted many residents already rejoicing over the return of peace to the state.
