Prince Ikenna Eze, son of the traditional ruler of Abba, Dunukofia Local Government Area, Anambra State, was allegedly assassinated on Thursday by yet-to-be-identified assailants. He was assassinated while driving in a jeep from his father’s workshop close to Ogbunike Toll-gate by a three-man gun-wielding assassins who drove in a Mercedes Benz car.
The assailants were said to have laid ambush close to the workshop along the ever-busy Awka-Onitsha Expressway, Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area and fired many shoots at his jeep.
He immediately lost control of the vehicle as the bullets from the assailants pierced through the windscreen and got him.
After raining the bullets on him, they drove off immediately without getting closer to the jeep to remove any item.
On a tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer DPO, in-charge of Ogidi Police Station, Mr. Rowland Omatoje, immediately mobilized his men and rushed to the scene but could not get the assassins as they had left minutes later.
He quickly, in a bid to save the life of the young-man, rushed him to a near-by hospital where he gave up the ghost on arrival.
Father of the victim, Igwe Abba, was said to have received the news of his son’s death with shock as he was hale and hearty on the fateful day before he left for the workshop.
