Unknown gunmen on Saturday in Maiduguri struck at the venue of the wedding ceremony of 30-year-old Maduga Borikmen and shot him dead.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that stray bullets also hit one person and injured two others on the occasion.
According to an eye witness, who pleaded anonymity, three assailants arrived at the scene in a golf car.
When they alighted from the car with AK47 riffles, they went straight to the bridegroom, opened fire on him and zoomed off.
Borikmen was a former councillor from Shehuri North under Lamisula ward in the state capital and currently the Chairman of Borno ex-councillors forum.
The state spokesman of the Joint Task Force, Lt.-Col. Hassan Mohammed, confirmed the incident, saying the body of the victim had been evacuated.
"The two dead bodies recovered from the scene have been deposited at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, while those injured are receiving treatment in the medical centre," he said.

i kno it is painful but i pitty d woman and think how she will b feeling now, may God gives her strenght 2 move on and i pray 4 her to av d best man dat will b her own forever, for d man maybe he has wrong person or people dat makes he, she or dem take this action against him, when we human are doing things dat will kno is wrong, we dnt think what will b d out come, i pray for every soul lust to rest in peace, people should always watch what dey are doing ro others.
