Russia, the largest country in the world, has launched an actor and a film director into space to make a feature film in orbit.
A Soyuz rocket-carrying actress Yulia Peresild and filmmaker Klim Shipenko, as well as cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov, lifted off just before 5 a.m. Eastern time from a launch facility in Baikonur, Kazakhstan.
It docked at the International Space Station “after just two orbits around the earth,” Russia’s space agency Roscosmos said in a tweet shortly after 8:00 Eastern time. “Welcome to the ISS!”
The passengers will spend about 12 days at the ISS, shooting about 35 minutes of the film, which has the working title “The Challenge.” Peresild will play a doctor who has to race to save the life of a crew member in space, according to the space agency’s website for the project.
Peresild, who was chosen from thousands of applicants for the role, has previously described the project as “a miracle, an incredible chance.”
Training for the film was “psychologically, physically and morally hard,” she told a news conference on Monday, in quotes carried by the Associated Press. Meanwhile, Shipenko lost 33 pounds while preparing for the flight, Roscosmos said.
Two Russian cosmonauts who are already on the ISS — Oleg Novitskiy and Pyotr Dubrov — are also expected to feature in the film, with Novitskiy set to return to Earth with Peresild, Shipenko, and Shkaplerov later this month.
The country announced its cosmic moviemaking ambitions last year, shortly after NASA said it would work with Tom Cruise on a film on the ISS.
Russia and the United States have long competed to make space history, with Russia sending the first human into space in 1962, and the United States’ Apollo 11 landing humans on the moon in 1969.
Men of the Ogun state police command has arrested a staff of a microfinance bank in Abeokuta, Olagoke Dare for conniving with his accomplice to rob him of a huge sum of money belonging to his employer. It was gathered that the bank staff, Dare had connived with one Idowu Tunde to rob him of 3million naira which belongs to his employer.
The suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the police at Ibara divisional headquarters, that armed robbers have attacked the duo of Olagoke Dare and Mary Agbejo while coming out of a commercial bank at Oke-ilewo area, where they had gone to withdraw money. Arriving at the scene the police arrested one Tunde Idowu who posed as a robber and had with him a mock gun.
During interrogation, Tunde confessed that it was Olagoke Dare who informed him that his employer will be sending him and one other person to withdraw the sum of 3million naira, and that they should come and rob them of the money.
The arrested suspect further stated that it was the same Dare Olagoke who gave him the toy pistol for the operation. He noted that while Dare and his other colleague were in the Bank, he had already hidden in their car which was deliberately left open by Dare in accordance with their plan.
While they got into the car, Idowu Tunde explained that he came out suddenly from the back seat and pointed the gun at the lady who was in possession of the money. But the lady noticed that the gun did not look Original consequent upon which she dragged the gun with him and raised alarm. It was the alarm that attracted people who pursued him and called the police.
The state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi has confirmed the arrest of the two suspects, adding that, the acting commissioner of police, DCP Abiodun Alamutu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the two suspects to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.
Gambian actress, Princess Shyngle has revealed that she was pregnant earlier this year but it was ectopic pregnancy. Shyngle who opened up that the incident left her shattered and depressed noted that the doctors had to terminate the pregnancy to save her life.
According to her, she was already anticipating the arrival of her baby, started shopping baby clothes, before she came to realize the pregnancy was ectopic after severe abdominal pain. Narrating the experience in an Instagram post , she wrote,

Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, a former President of the Nigerian Senate, has told youths nursing the ambition to run in the 2023 presidential election to shelve the idea.
Saraki said it was already too late for such persons to stand any chance of winning an election in this country, adding that the system is too rigid.
The former Senate President said he would not even want any youth with a sound mind to contest for political offices at this point because they still possess some good values which would be corrupted before they win any election.
“You have to give up some good values that you have to be able to be competitive,” the former Kwara State Governor said at the weekend during an Independence lunch with diverse Nigerian youths in Abuja.
“It is too late to win election. I will be very honest with you. The System is too rigid against you. You are a young guy, you don’t have money or network where are you going to start from?
“I don’t even want you to [contest] because you still have some good values. I don’t want you to be corrupted because for you to win you have to give up some good values that you have to be able to be competitive.
“We don’t want that because it means your generation will be as bad as ours. Let’s keep you where you are for now for those who are not yet corrupted.
“Where I believe you can make a difference which no one can stop you is your a rights to vote. That’s the only role you can play now in reality.
“We should be asking if that is guaranteed. That is what we have been advocating for in the electoral bill and it has worked.
“I think what needs to be done now is that we must participate. Let me explain further, on the day of election, if you look at the line of people that go out to vote… if the people coming out to vote are people we can give 100 naira, the election will not stand. This means we can manipulate. But if the 500 people lining up are people like you election will hold.
“If we say we won’t come out because nothing will change …if we take that attitude, then they will win. Look at all over the world where there is big change, people that made the change are people like you. If you are not registered to vote, nothing will change. It will be who we want to be Governor, Senator that will be.
“If you make up majority of the electorate even if they try to change the result, I know you will not agree because you know your right and the world will stand with you.
“I think the target now should be how to mobilize similar mind to hold their voters card and vote. If that is the kind of voters, then the result will hold. I promise, if those are not the kind of voters, then everyone will try to manipulate the result.
“Until those of you that matter take it upon yourself and ask what kind of Governor, president, Senator you want, nothing can change.
“When you get the right kind of Governor and he knows you have the power to vote him out, you will have the chance to come into government because you would have built a pact.
“The point now is, politician don’t believe you can vote them out. If they believe you can vote them out, they will do the right things.
“Their own view is 9 months to election they will share the money and win election. If they know the vote is not about sharing money they will perform well.
“End SARS did not fail, it showed that the youth can participate and the best form of participation is through voting.
“I think the world is tired of the problem and dangers Nigeria could create. There are six million Nigerians that have the right to be in the UK.
“If Afghanistan was a problem then Nigeria is a bigger problem for the UK. Even for self interest, it is in the best interest for UK to work because of the exodus that will go into those places if it doesn’t.
“The world is with us but we must put in place good governance and the right kind of voters that can do that are people like yourself. Not those who want N5000. If the guy that wants N5000 is more than you, then Nigeria is not going to change and we won’t have the right kind of leaders.”

Boko Haram has allegedly taken over communities in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. It was reported that the insurgents who ordered residents of the communities not to recognise any constituted authority, also told them to marry off their daughters at the age of 12. Resident of the area and Co-Convener of Concerned Shiroro Youths, Bello Ibrahim told the publication;

“At a time, they were in Kawure, the village of former Senator Representing Niger East, David Umaru. “But there was operation to dislodge them by the joint military task force. “Fortunately they were dispatched but after a while, since military base is not stationed there, they reconvened. “So now, they are not only in Kawure, they have also extended their tentacles to Communities like Kuregbe, Awulo, and host of other Communities. “In Awulo and Kuregbe Communities, they assembled the locals, both Muslims and Christians, and gave them marching order that any girl that is 12 years old should be married off. “There is no any form of law in the area, aside Boko Haram’s… If locals have any feud, either Family issue of community problem, they report to them for resolution. “No any case should be reported to police or court or any constituted authority for resolution.”
Another resident alleged that the insurgents operate freely in the communities without being challenged. He said;

“They have become constituted authority in those villages. And Kaure, Awulo and Kuregbe are their operational grounds. They coerce locals to obey them as their authority. “In the entire Chukuba and Kuregbe ward, it is Boko Haram elements that are operating there not bandits that we know.”
Chairman of Shiroro Local Government, Suleiman Chukuba also confirmed the influx of Boko Haram elements, and further added that the residents were made to believe that they were Boko Haram elements because of their mode of preaching.

“On the issue of influx of Boko Haram in shiroro, only four wards have been affected. “They told villagers that they have money to help them and that they have guns to give them to fight Government. And that is the same doctrine we know Boko Haram elements promote."
Residents of the area however denied the claim, saying the insurgents have only coerced villagers into not reporting any case or feud to police or court and fixed marital age for girls.
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has said some governors and Federal Government’s officials may be responsible for the insecurity across the Southeast.
HURIWA alleged that governors and Federal Government officials behind the killings are trying to undermine the agitation of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in the Southeast.
The rights group made the remark while urging the Nigerian Army to respect human rights in the Southeast.
HURIWA asked the Nigerian Army to investigate the killings in the Southeast because some officials of the Federal Government may be responsible for insecurity in the Southeast.
In a statement by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA said the Nigerian Army must work with the mindset that members of IPOB may not be responsible for the killings in the Southeast.
HURIWA said: “Following report that the Nigerian Army has launched multiple military exercises covering the South East region of Nigeria aimed at checking the excessive cases of attacks targeting strategic national security institutions/personnel and the killing of civilians by unknown gunmen, the military high command should abide by rules of engagement, respect for Human Rights of civilians and adherence to the principles of the rule of law.
“The Nigerian Army should not work under a bandwagon conspiratorial plots that the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra carry out the attacks and killings but the Army must be open-minded, look inwards and investigate the possibility that these attacks may have been masterminded by federal government officials and some governors of the South East of Nigeria who may want to undermine the public acceptance and popularity of the agitation for self-determination as canvassed by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra.
“In the past few months, many innocent Igbo youths have been killed, arrested, incarcerated and tortured by the security forces under the guise that all Igbo youths are members of IPOB.”
IPOB, however, pointed out that all its members and the Eastern Security Network, ESN, should be protected.
“Members of IPOB or ESN are entitled to the full protection of the law and therefore must never be killed extralegally by the armed forces of Nigeria which is an institution created by the GrundNorm,” he said.
Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has dumped his ambition to contest the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Daily Independent is reporting.
The governor, who has not hidden his desire to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, recently said Nigerians were asking him to contest for the seat of the presidency in the 2023 general elections.
He also said that he believes he has the necessary qualities to perform excellently as president, especially in uniting the nation, which, according to him, is seriously divided.
“The youths and women and all Nigerians, including very objective elite, are asking me to run for president in 2023,” he said.
“And I believe that it is high time that we looked into capacity — who can do the job? Who is going to unify this country? And I think they are seeing something in me that they are asking me to come and unite and fix this country.”

A 17-year-old father is facing charges for the death of his newborn son.
Caleb Blake Brown and the mother of the baby went to an emergency room in early August when she noticed the three-week-old baby was pale and had bruising on his abdomen, according to police. During an investigation, authorities found that Brown was mad at the baby’s mom for keeping the baby and was concerned about paying child support.
Brown stated in the probable cause affidavit of his arrest that he squeezed the baby and threw him into the air, eventually hitting the ceiling fan. He is being held at the Denton County jail, and a bond has not been set.

Taiwan says a record number of Chinese warplanes, 77, have entered into its air defense identification zone (ADIZ) for the second day in a row, Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense said on Saturday night, October 2. Taiwan and mainland China have been governed separately since the end of a civil war more than seven decades ago, in which the defeated Nationalists fled to Taipei. However, China views Taiwan as an inseparable part of its territory, even though the Chinese Communist Party has never governed the democratic island of about 24 million people. Chinese President Xi Jinping has refused to rule out military force to capture Taiwan if necessary. The island in a statement said a total of 39 Chinese military aircraft entered the ADIZ on Saturday, after 38 planes entered on Friday. The 38 and 39 planes respectively are the highest number of incursions from China into the Taiwan air territory. The incursions on Saturday came in two batches, 20 planes during daytime hours and 19 planes at night, the ministry said in two statements. They were made by 26 J-16 fighter jets, 10 Su-30 fighter jets, two Y-8 anti-submarine warning aircraft and one KJ-500 airborne, the Defense Ministry said. In response, the Taiwanese air force scrambled aircraft, issued radio warnings, and deployed air defense missiles systems, the ministry added. However, the incursions did not violate Taiwan's airspace, which extends 12 nautical miles from its coast. The US Federal Aviation Administration defines an ADIZ as "a designated area of airspace over land or water within which a country requires the immediate and positive identification, location and air traffic control of aircraft in the interest of the country's national security." Before now, the previous single-day record for Chinese Army flights into Taiwan's ADIZ was in June, when 28 Chinese military planes entered. The air incursions came as Beijing celebrated 72 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949.

Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, the human rights lawyer, has alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari has destroyed Nigeria. The senior lawyer noted that Buhari has failed in his tripodal policies through which he campaigned and won election in 2015 which are: Economy, security and anti-corruption.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria spoke at a human rights lecture organised by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, with the theme: Nigerian School Children; Insecurity and Human Rights, held in Abuja.
He pointed out that many children can no longer go to school, adding that more than seventy percent school children in Nigeria are out of schools.
According to him, from Jangebe to Chibok; from Dapchi to Kaduna between December 2020 till date, over 700 hundred school children have been kidnapped with some of them being killed or forced into marriage.
