Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / I Will Kill You — One Of The 3 Policemen Who Brutalized An Igbo Man Threatened[Video] |
on: 19-10-2020 02:38 PM
| Today being the 12th day of EndSARS movement, more photos and videos of police brutality in our country are surfacing on social media. A while ago, I stumbled on another video clip of police brutality in the country. I simply marvelled at the video, and what this country has simply turned into. A lawless country! I called it. The impunity of Nigerian police officers and men are first-hand to the extent that boast of killing innocent citizens without a shame or a check on thier excesses. There is a viral video of where three policemen are brutalizing a Nigerian youth. Initially, the policeman stopped and searched him by dipping his hand to the innocent man’s pocket to bring out his phone. The young man could be heard asking one of the police men who started beating him up in Igbo language “what have I done you”? He said before God and man, I didn’t do anything. This, nonetheless, didn’t stop the other two policemen by descending heavily on him and hitting him hard with blows. The victim was demanding for his phone since he committed no offence yet to proven to him. “How do you think you can overpower three of us here?”, one of the officers asked rhetorically. He further said to the young man: “I would kill you.” According to one of the Twitter users identified as Madubuike Ikenna who commented on the said video, he said that the man being harassed and molested was simply a victim of police brutality. Besides, he said the victim was an interior designer colleague of his. And that the officers brutalized him for using an iPhone. Another Twitter user who goes by name Alexander Gabriael confidently said that this sad and unlawful incident took place in Enugu state along Kenyetta Market. And the incident took place one early morning this year. See how Nigerians reacted to the video and also watch the video here : https://80naija.com/i-will-kill-you-one-of-the-3-policemen-who-brutalized-an-igbo-man-threatenedvideo/ | | |

Forum / Politics / President Buhari Mourns The Death Of The Family Of A Prominent Nigerian |
on: 17-10-2020 11:20 AM
| President Buhari has sent a condolence message to the family of a prominent Nigerian who has died. President Buhari sent a message through his special adviser on media and publicity, Garba Shehu to the family of Chief Obafemi Awolowo who lost their eldest daughter, Tola Oyederian. We all know what it means for a family to lose a loved one, the devastation is so enormous and heartbreaking. One thing about death is that it's a painful thing that brings sorrow and makes people wish that no one ever dies. Death doesn't come to the small or least alone, it comes to the great as well and it has no favorite. We can only pray that we fulfill our days on earth and live for the Glory of God. We pray that God will grant the family of the deceased the fortitude to best the loss. And we also pray that all those who have lost their lives will be comforted by God. President Buhari in his condolence message encouraged the family to be strong and comforted. https://80naija.com/president-buhari-mourns-the-death-of-the-family-of-a-prominent-nigerian/ | | |

Forum / Religion / See what Ghanian Pastor was doing to a lady in the church as deliverance (Video) |
on: 12-10-2020 03:28 PM
| Many times, I pity people who are blinded by what they call faith. The level of immortality practiced in the church these days in the name of deliverance is quiet alarming. Many people out of ignorance, have given out their dignities to their religious leaders. This is not the first of its kind where a pastor will order a woman to pull off her undies for deliverance. Some people even go to the extent of harassing the members of their church in the form of delivering them This pastor whom according to his language is a Ghanian pastor, instructed the lady in the video to pull off her p*nts so he could shave off her pubic hair as a form of delivering her from whatever spirit that seem to be holding her life. Ignorantly, this lady did as instructed and another servant of the pastor brought out a plate to gather the hairs. This really looks suspicious and a kind of demonic to me. Forum / Health / ‘Not scared of the virus’, Myanmar taxi driver’s pilgrimage to a sacred pagoda |
on: 12-10-2020 10:44 AM
| Defying the threat of contracting coronavirus and a citywide lockdown, Myanmar taxi driver Ko Naing, 50, still travels each day to pray outside the sacred Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, the country’s holiest Buddhist site. “I’m not scared of the virus because I feel protected by my religion and regular praying at the pagoda,” he told Reuters, kneeling at the front gate of the pagoda. The number of COVID-19 infections in Myanmar, which has one of the world’s weakest health systems, has surged from a few hundred in mid-August to more than 27,000 cases and 646 deaths as of Monday. The country of 53 million people has locked down its biggest city, Yangon, and imposed a broad stay-at-home order across the whole city to stop the virus from spreading. https://80naija.com/not-scared-of-the-virus-myanmar-taxi-drivers-pilgrimage-to-a-sacred-pagoda/ | | |

Forum / Health / COVID19: Delhi stops displaying notices at homes of COVID-19 patients because of stigma |
on: 12-10-2020 10:42 AM
| Delhi authorities have stopped putting notices outside the homes of people infected with coronavirus because this has amplified the social stigma associated with the disease and in turn caused others to hide their illness, officials said on Monday. Early on during the outbreak in the Indian capital, officials would paste a poster on the homes of people in quarantine after they had tested positive for the virus to make sure everyone in the neighbourhood was careful. It also deterred people from violating the quarantine.
But more than six months into the pandemic people were fully aware of COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the virus, and there was less need to publicise the cases, city officials said. Instead it was important to instil confidence in people to come forward and test themselves.
“There is a stigma with the coronavirus disease and posters outside the house amplify that. By doing away with this, we are aiming at increased testing. We want more people to get themselves tested without thinking of stigmas,” said Delhi environment minister Kailash Gehlot.
India’s total coronavirus cases stood at 7.12 million on Monday, health ministry data showed, behind only the United States which is approaching the 8 million mark.
The country recorded 66,732 new infections in the last 24 hours, a decline from last month’s highs, but still the world’s highest daily rise.
Deaths from COVID-19 infections rose by 816 to 109,150, the health ministry said.
Delhi makes up a little over 4% of India’s total caseload, the second highest after the western city of Pune, and ahead of Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Some residents in Delhi said that such was the fear over the disease that people tried to distance themselves from patients even after they had recovered.
“Discrimination is widespread, putting posters adds to the problem,” said Dr Jugal Kishore who heads the community medicines department at Delhi’s Safdarjang hospital.
Other states such as Uttar Pradesh, the most populous, have also stopped publicising cases in the neighbourhood. But the practice remains prevalent in Mumbai, residents said.

Forum / Politics / Malaysia police to summon Anwar over list of backers of PM bid |
on: 12-10-2020 10:39 AM
| Malaysia’s police said on Monday they have asked opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to give a statement after they received complaints about names of lawmakers appearing in news media reportedly backing his claim to the premiership. Anwar last week announced he had been granted an audience with King Al-Sultan Abdullah on Tuesday to present documentation “of the strong and convincing majority” of legislators behind his bid to replace Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Police in a statement said they had received unspecified complaints over a widely circulated list of 121 federal lawmakers who supposedly were backing Anwar’s bid.
So far there have been no significant public endorsements for Anwar.
Police said one of the complaints was lodged by a member of parliament but did not disclose the identities of the other complainants, or what the complaints entailed.
“The police urge the public not to be concerned by the spread of the news and advises all interested parties against spreading news that has yet to be verified,” Criminal Investigations Department Director Huzir Mohamed said.
“The police will not hesitate to take action against those who spread news that is false, unverified and misleading.”
Huzir said they had initially asked Anwar to give his statement on Monday morning, but due to scheduling conflicts they will set a new date for their meeting.
Anwar said members of his People’s Justice Party have been instructed not to hold any gatherings while he attends his audience with the king.
“I also call upon all Malaysians to keep calm as this audience session takes place, and to remain calm for any subsequent process that takes place thereafter,” Anwar said.
