| Former Labour Minister Austin Liato has been handed a two year sentence with hard labour in the K2.1 billion case by a Lusaka Magistrate court.
This is in the matter in which Mr Liato was facing one count of being in possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime contrary to section one (1) of the forfeiture of proceeds of crime Act number 19 of 2010 of the laws of Zambia.
Principal Magistrate Aridah Chulu handed Mr Liato the jail term when he appeared for judgment this morning.
Magsistrate Chulu has also forfeited the money and Mr Liato’s farm were the money was buried to the State.
In litigation Liato pleaded for leniency from the court stating that he suffers from a heart condition and takes care of a big family.
He becomes the first former senior government official of the MMD facing corruption charges in the courts of law to be convicted.

| A 50-year-old woman from Mutare's sprawling high-density suburb of Sakubva has died after a marathon sex session at her boyfriend's house. She died of breathing complications.
The tragedy which happened in the wee hours of Tuesday at House No. 26B Chisamba Singles, shocked residents of the populous suburb.
The acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Enock Chishiri, confirmed the incident and said Caroline Gatura was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Mutare Provincial Hospital where she was rushed after suffering from breathing complications. Her boyfriend Jefter Shoko (52) tried in vain to save her.
"The two were having a 'nice time' at Jefter's house when Gatura developed breathing complications and she collapsed. Jefter hired a vehicle to ferry her girlfriend to hospital, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival," he said.
Asst Insp Chishiri said the police were waiting for a post mortem to ascertain the actual cause of her death.
He said the pair were not married. But they usually spent most of the nights together. The boyfriend has confirmed that on this occasion they got carried away in the bedroom. | | | | |

| Tel Aviv has been hit by the most violent protests in its recent history after more than 1,000 Israelis took to the streets in the city's south to demand the deportation of African immigrants and asylum seekers. The predominately black neighbourhood of Hatikva was ransacked by groups of nationalist protesters who had attended a demonstration on Wednesday night against illegal African migrants. The protesters claim the Africans are responsible for a rise in crime, bearing signs saying "This is not Africa" and "Stop talking, start expelling".
"Blacks out!" shouted demonstrators in the crowd, while others yelled "Send the Sudanese back to Sudan", as other protesters derided the "bleeding-heart leftists" working to help them. The mob set cans of rubbish on fire, smashed the windows of shops owned by Eritrean migrants and beat up Africans walking through the streets. TJ, a 29-year-old migrant from Nigeria, watched the violent chaos from his rooftop having been chased and pelted with rocks when he attempted to leave his house.
"There were protesters everywhere smashing shop and car windows," he said. "A group of about 10 or 15 boys stopped one black kid cycling on his bike. They pulled him off and were punching and kicking him in his head. The police just stood and watched until it got really out of control." Other witnesses described a gang assaulting a mother carrying a young baby so violently that she was forced to drop her child. Others stopped shuttle buses to search for migrant workers among their passengers.
The Israeli police confirmed they had arrested 17 suspects involved in "a protest against illegal African immigrants". Extra police units were positioned to prevent further violence in the area last night. Peace Now, an Israeli human rights organisation, is calling for an investigation into whether the speakers at Wednesday night's rally, including Knesset ministers Miri Regev, Danny Danon, Yari Levin and Michael Ben-Ari, are guilty of incitement. During her address, Ms Regev described illegal immigrants as a "cancer in our society".
Danny Danon, a member of Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party, wrote in a Facebook status later the same evening: "Israel is at war. An enemy state of infiltrators was established in Israel, and its capital is south Tel Aviv." According to Israeli government figures, there are currently 60,000 African asylum seekers in Israel. The vast majority come from Eritrea and Sudan and were smuggled into the country by foot through Israel's southern border with Egypt, many having been beaten and tortured by their smugglers in camps in the Sinai en route. Israel terms any illegal immigrant through this border an 'infiltrator' and estimate 90 per cent are economic migrants coming to Israel to look for work – a stark contrast to the figures in England and Canada, where 66 per cent and 96 per cent of Eritreans who arrive illegally are granted refugee status.
The Israeli government currently does not deport Eritreans or Sudanese however Yehuda Weinstein, Israel's attorney general, will appear before the Jerusalem District Court next week to argue that there is no longer a legal obstacle to expelling 700 Southern Sudanese refugees. If approved, Israel will be the first country to have reached this decision. Defending her position on Thursday, Ms Regev insisted that while she does not condone violence, African immigrants pose a grave demographic threat to Israel. "Israel should adopt the US protocol of returning infiltrators to the border within 72 hours ... Jews and Israelis are scared of living in their country," she said.
Mr Danon's proposition to prevent further violence was to deport the city's African residents " to detention facilities and remove Africans from population centres". Bracing themselves for a second round of nationalist protests on Thursday evening, the residents of Hatikva are struggling to resume normal life. 'TJ' says he is among the few who has left his home following the violence: "Black people have been too afraid to leave their homes to go to work today. Racism in Tel Aviv is not only getting worse it's getting out of hand and the police are no help. How Kang’s Parent Made The Shocking Discovery. Her parent couldn’t understand why their daughter’s stomach was growing larger overnight and feared it could be a tumour. Her swollen belly made her look pregnant and drew taunts from neighbours who branded her “a monster but after doctors examined the 18-month old they discovered that she had an extremely rare condition, which affects 1 in 500,000 births – when one twin in the womb grows larger than the other and envelops its smaller sibling.
The second foetus never fully develops, but continues to grow within the first baby, feeding off it like a parasite. It left Kang, from Henan Provence, unable to eat solid food and spending her time in constant pain. Kang had already had a difficult start to life.
Just days old, she was abandoned in a field by her biological parents. Her cries were heard by farm worker Wang Guihua, 35, who took her home and nursed her back to health. Wang and her husband Kang Xiqing, 43, had no children of their own and were allowed to foster Kang. The worried couple took her to doctors who explained that Kang had an unborn twin growing inside her, and that it was crushing her organs as it grew. Her life was hanging in the balance, but her parents with a combined income of £400 a year, couldn’t afford the £1,000 operation that their daughter so desperately needed.Help arrived in the form of the Red Cross who raised the funds for Kang through an appeal.
She was rushed into surgery and after a grueling 10-hour operation, Kang is now recovering well and will be able to live a normal life. Her grateful mother thanked the Red Cross, saying: “We’re very grateful. We were so worried she would die. Before she used to cry in pain and hold her bump like a pregnant woman. Now we can hope she can have a normal life. ”Kang has returned to her village in Henan provence and is doing well, she is running round the village with the other children and is eating solid food.Her mother said: “She doesn’t understand what has happened to her. But she is happy.“She still has her womb and ovaries, so one day she will be able to have children of her own.”

Nigerian lawmakers have once more come under attack after ex-Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo called them armed robbers at a function in Lagos recently. In the latest development, a Canadian has described member of Cross River State House Of Assembly as touts.
The lawmakers in the Cross River State House of Assembly were derided by Mr. Peter Jenkins, a Canadian Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) worker appointed to head the Cross River State Committee on Anti-Deforestation by Governor Liyel Imoke.
The Canadian did not only describe the lawmakers as touts, he has also refused to heed the seven-day ultimatum handed his committee by the House of Assembly asking him to return the timber confiscated from a timber dealer called Mr. Samuel Ukim Awosa. Jenkins said the Assembly is an amalgam of corrupt touts brought in from motor parks, adding that “some of them cannot even tie their shoes” and therefore have no authority to compel him to obey their resolution.
According to P.M report, Jenkins claimed the Assembly members were looking for money from him but would not get a kobo as bribe because most of them are not qualified to be in the Assembly in the first place. “These people were in the motor park some five years ago and somebody just thought that let’s send these idiots to the Assembly. They are causing so much trouble here for us that is why they are in the Assembly,” he said. According to him, the Assembly passed “what may probably be the best forestry law in the world without even reading it.” It was on that score that the lawmakers are regretting passing the law that gave Jenkins the powers to function exclusively without checks from them.
The lawmakers who are now on a tour of South Africa, had on 8 May ordered Jenkins to appear before the House within seven days and to return the timber seized from Awosa following a petition to the Assembly by Awosa. The directive contained in a recommendation of the House Committee on Judiciary and Public Service Matters, accused Jenkins of “despicable and unconscionable conduct” and accordingly called on him to return the timber. Barrister Ogana Lukpata, the chairman of the Committee, said the Task Force invaded the home of Awosa and allegedly made away with the sum of N2.5 million naira and three lorry loads of timber.
Lukpata called on the Task Force to return the money and the timber within seven days from the date of the resolution. But Jenkins said the lawmakers were looking for money and would “not get a dime from me.” While contributing to the debate on the floor of the House earlier, the Deputy Speaker, Itaya Nyong said the task force was acting outside its mandate and called on Governor Imoke to ban the Task Force and hand over its function to the Cross River State Forestry Commission. Senator Imoke is yet to respond to the call by the Assembly to stop the Task Force from operating.
Meanwhile, Lagos lawmakers have reacted to the statement credited to former president Olusegun Obasanjo that legislators at the state and national assemblies are robbers and rogues. They have equally called him the father of armed robbers and rogues. Two of the lawmakers, who spoke with P.M.NEWS, accused the former President of training the set of lawmakers he described as armed robbers and rogues and fixing them at the legislative arm of government. They added that it was unfortunate that Obasanjo, who should be hiding his head in shame for plundering the nation’s resources, could make such statement despite knowing that his boys and party faithful make up a large chunk of the National Assembly and most state Houses of Assembly.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mufutau Egberongbe, said: “such volatile statement coming out from the mouth of a former leader is uncalled for in the sense that you don’t generalise persons on issues of morals and fraudulent acts. “The amount of money that passes through the executive arm which he headed three times far, far surpasses what is found at the legislative arm which has no budget of its own.” Egberongbe asked the former president needs to have a rethink and his comments should not go unchecked.
Though he agreed that there is corruption almost in every sector of the country, he, however, said the problem should be looked at holistically. “Most of the people at the National Assembly, which is dominated by his party, are those who had, at one time or the other, passed through his own tutelage either as a former president or as a former head of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party. “So if he begins to see fraud now, I would believe what he invested in eight years ago that is manifesting now,” he said adding that such comments could give Nigeria a negative image among the comity of nations thus adding to the problems facing the country. He asked Obasanjo to realise that it was his harvest time since his children have shown that they were truly invested in judging by his statement.
Another lawmaker, Abdulbaq Balogun, described Obasanjo as a drowning man who was seeking some relevance . “It is an unfortunate statement from an elderstatesman of his status because he had been saddled with the responsibility of serving this nation on three occasions,” Balogun said, adding that as a result of the privileged position, he created the avenue for those he called rogues to take over the legislature. “It was during his time as president that we had an ex-convict becoming the governor of a state. That person came from his party and what did he do about it?
“I could remember a Senator who raised concerns on the floor of the Senate that he was sitting with people who had bad records and that he had investigated and interrogated some of them and that they do not have any business in the National Assembly, but the report was killed. “Those he has accused belong to his party and what are their credentials and antecedents?
“I can put it to you that Obasanjo contributed in no small measure in making those people who they are today,” he said while advising the younger generation to learn from the former President’s mistakes. He recalled that while at the helm of affairs, Obasanjo never respected the rule of law, adding that he should be somewhere lamenting rather than shamelessly speaking in public against the country that he ruined through the selection of the wrong leaders.(pm reports)owed.

The peak time a woman is most likely to want to engage in segxwal activity has been discovered in a new survey.

45% of of the 1,000 women questioned in the Women’s Health survey admitted to having “al fresco sex”.

It also found women in the South West, North West and Scotland were the most segxwally satisfied with more in four in five females saying they were happy with their sex life.
In contrast the sex lives of Irish females’ were cited as the least satisfying, with less than a third saying they were happy with their love life.
But more than 40 per cent of women living in Ireland were found to attempt sex more than three times a week.
A third of Londoners and Welsh women also admitted to having sex on more than three occasions every week, according to the survey for Women’s Health magazine.
“It is great to see that the majority of British women are satisfied between the sheets, or outside, as our … sex survey reveals,” said Farrah Storr, the magazine’s editor.
