10401  Forum / Law and Crime / 'I See Usifo's Face When I Dream' - Chidinma Cries Out, As Yahoo Boy Is Implicated on: 29-06-2021 02:12 PM

A suspected internet fraudster indicted in the murder of SuperTV Boss, Usifo Ataga is currently on the run. This comes as Chidinma Ojukwu, the 300-Level Mass Communication student of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, who was arrested last Wednesday, over the murder Ataga, in a service apartment in the Lekki area of Lagos State, has revealed that she sees Usifo’s face in her dream.

According to reports, this is just as more facts have emerged on how she murdered 50-year-old Usifo. At a chance meeting with the 21-year-old lady, she said she wished she would wake up to discover that the whole drama was only a dream.

She said: “I have never had peace since the day I was arrested. Never in my wildest imagination did I envisage I would kill a human being. I see his face in my dream every night. At times I would be scared to sleep.

“I have been begging God for forgiveness. This is not what I wanted for myself. I don’t know what fate holds for me.“I am also begging his family to forgive me, especially his children. Ah! God, what have I done?”
she exclaimed, burying her face in her palms.

While maintaining that she carried out the killing alone, Chidinma told detectives at the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Yaba that she was able to overpower the deceased because he was weak. She revealed that late Usifo became weak after taking three wraps of Rohypnol while she took one wrap. She stated that she strangled Usifo before stabbing him.

Her claim has confirmed the Ataga family’s insinuation that Usifo’s neck was discovered to have been broken during an inspection of his body in the morgue.

Meanwhile, detectives are on the manhunt for a suspected drug addict and internet fraudster (names withheld), who Chidinma claimed to have assisted her to falsify the deceased’s documents after she escaped from the service apartment in Lekki Phase 1, abandoning Usifo’s lifeless body.

She disclosed that the deceased earlier gave her his Automated Teller Machine, ATM, card to withdraw some money to buy some clothes but that she did not withdraw much. Thereafter, she said she contacted the internet fraudster to help her withdraw more money.

As at yesterday, the internet fraudster, who got wind of Chidinma’s arrest, had bolted from his abode. But the Police assured they would get him to answer questions on what he knew about Usifo’s death.

Meanwhile, Police have beefed up security around the suspect to avoid any situation that could truncate investigation. As at yesterday (Monday), only her father was allowed to visit her. Journalists were also barred from speaking with her.

This move, according to Police sources, was also aimed at avoiding a situation whereby any untoward incident will happen to her. For instance, her food is served by the Police, as outsiders are barred from bringing in food for her.
10402  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 'Don't Dare Disconnect Our SIM Cards' - Soldiers Warn Nigerian Government on: 29-06-2021 01:22 PM

The federal government has been warned by some soldiers not to disconnect their lines as the deadline approaches. The soldiers serving in the Northeastern part of the country expressed their displeasure saying the government should give them more time. This comes as the Federal government announced an extension of the deadline for National Identification Number-SIM data verification to July 26.

But soldiers in North-East Borno have warned that their SIM cards must not be disconnected as that is the only means of communication with their family members and loved ones. They stated that the government can insist on the deadline only if provisions can be made for National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) officers to get to the soldiers based in the bush, which might not be possible due to security threats.

One of the affected soldiers who spoke with SaharaReporters said, “Many soldiers are not happy, we are not happy with the decision of the federal government on the issue of NIN linkage with SIM cards and they are giving July 26 deadline. As useless as the Nigerian government is, it has refused to understand that there are soldiers who have been in the bush for more than a year without seeing their families and the SIM cards are the only means of communicating with our families and sending money to them. Now, the government is talking about blocking it without considering that there are people in the bush."

“It will take a journey of more than two days from the bush before I will locate Maiduguri town, the journey is by bus not on foot. The government is not considering this. Many soldiers are lamenting, we are not happy at all. If the NIMC blocks our SIM cards, I don't know what will be our fate, do you know how many soldiers are in the North-East?

"Seventy-five percent of Nigerian soldiers are in Maiduguri, just in one state, and we are in the bush and now the NIMC is talking about blocking SIM cards without considering people that have been serving their country for years, with no means to see their families, they shouldn't try it,” another soldier said.

When asked if there was a way NIMC officials could conduct the verification exercise for soldiers without the military personnel having to leave their duty posts, he said, “There are many bushes they will pass through before getting here. Civilians cannot even use the road. Even if they can get here, how about soldiers in other locations? What will they do? This thing is going to cause a problem in this country.”

In December 2020, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) urged every Nigerian to get a National Identification Number and submit it to their network operators. The commission also announced the suspension of sale and reactivation of new SIM cards because of an audit of the subscriber registration database.

A statement by Ikechukwu Adinde, NCC director for public affairs said the directive became necessary against the background of the “preponderance of pre-registered SIMs with the attendant security implications associated with the use of same to facilitate criminal activities”
10403  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 5 Facts You Need To Know About Cryptocurrency In 2021 on: 29-06-2021 12:57 PM

Cryptocurrencies have been getting a lot of attention over the past several months. What sparked as an initial interest has now turned into a source of income for many! The market value for bitcoin has seen astronomical ups and disappointing lows in 2021 indicating one crucial fact – that it is a very volatile cryptocurrency. While some have cashed in on the volatility and made profits, others have experienced huge losses.

While bitcoin has only grown over the past several years it has been in existence, it still remains as a very volatile class for several investors. And the whole concept of cryptocurrency is often seemingly wrapped in mystery because of the complexities behind its working. Add to the fact that it is not regulated by governmental institutions – and there are even fewer takers.
Don’t worry! This article isn’t meant to be a guide on how cryptocurrencies work overall. In fact, we are going to give you some interesting facts that you must know about.

Cryptocurrencies are roughly valued at $1.4 trillion
The current total market capitalization (which, roughly explained, is the total value of all the shares of stock – in this case the value of all the cryptocurrencies) of all cryptocurrencies reached a jaw-dropping $2.3 trillion mark in the first week of May. This is double to what the market cap was in February of this year. Now you know exactly why and how so many people are taking a keen interest in this asset class.
Bitcoin, which is the most valued cryptocurrency in the world, stands at a market cap of $715.46 billion.

100+ million people have crypto
The number of global crypto users reached a staggering  106 million in January. This is a sharp increase of 15.7% since the last month of 2020. Moreover, with the meteoric rise in value of bitcoin and Ethereum, two of the most popular cryptocurrencies in the word, even boomers and Gen Xers are taking a huge undying interest in the currencies!

Facebook, Tesla, Mastercard, and Visa are buying crypto

It should come as no surprise that tech masters like Facebook and Tesla are also investing in bitcoin. Tesla invested about $1.5 billion in bitcoin in 2021. This might actually come as a surprise but Facebook will launch its own cryptocurrency this year!
MicroStrategy, a business intelligence company has invested about $15 million in 2021. They have additionally bought 253 bitcoins and plan to keep buying periodically. They are considered one of the biggest institutional investors in the famous cryptocurrency.
Companies like Mastercard, Visa, and PayPal have also shown a keen interest in this space. Some of them are even allowing users to trade some cryptocurrencies.

There are 400% more bitcoin millionaires

Ever since the year 2021 started, there has been a continuous increase in the number of bitcoin millionaires. Now, there are more than 100,000 bitcoin wallets that have over $1 million valued in the cryptocurrency. A huge 400% jump from the previous months!
You might think that against the 46.8 million millionaires in the world, this figure is a minuscule one. But you mustn’t forget that bitcoin is slightly over ten years old. Give the market the credit that it has only increased in value over the past several years!

We only have 21 million bitcoins in total

That’s right. This most-valued cryptocurrency has a limited supply of 21 million, out of which there are already 18.638 million in circulation. Now, we are only left with a total of 2.362 million more bitcoins that can be mined and introduced in the market.
The process of mining (or adding more bitcoins in circulation) bitcoin is complex – hence miners get a fixed number as a reward upon its successful mining. However, this reward halves every four years. For instance, after its launch, miners used to get 50 bitcoins, which halved to 25 in 2012, 12.5 in 2016, and 6.25 in 2021.
10404  Forum / Relationships & Romance / Found Love At 47, Married At 48, Gave Birth At 49, Nigerian Woman Celebrates 50th Birthday on: 29-06-2021 12:38 PM

A Nigerian woman, Ladunni Idowu Giwa-Osagie has welcomed her first child at almost the age of 50. Ladun met her husband, Aigbovo-Giwa-Osagie when she turned 47, they got married at 48, she became pregnant at 49 and on June 25th, 2021, just before her 50th birthday, she gave birth to a baby boy named Osarumuwese Oluwaseyitanfunmi Nosakhare.

Her heartwarming testimony and the inspiring personal story was shared by a friend, Ifeanyi Omeni on Monday, June 28. Read below:
GOLDEN GLADIATOR

I loved gladiator films during my growing-up years. Films like Ben Hur and its counterparts, featuring warriors of the ancient Roman Empire who fought in amphitheatres, to entertain an excited crowd, were my great delight. A little bit of that love still lingers, and I sure can settle down to watch those films at a stretch, without boredom descending on me.

Those Roman gladiators were like tin gods, ruling the amphitheatres and looked like the epitome of masculinity. Many maidens will sure feel safe, encased in those strong arms, characterised by rippling muscles. And my God, were those guys handsome? Soft on the eyes, with smiles that could charm maidens of that era. Looks like they were handpicked.

I took a trip to Rome last year and saw the Colosseum, an amphitheatre where gladiator fights took place in days of old. The monumental Roman Amphitheatre in Rome, is a golden-brownish building with perforated holes. I half-hoped to see Ben Hur arise from the arena and show his skills as a daring gladiator.

The gladiators of old were conquerors, warriors and celebrated champions. Though the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary describes a gladiator as a man in ancient Rome, who was trained to fight other men or animals, in order to entertain the public, I beg to differ from that definition, in this creative message.

I dare to define a gladiator as a male or female who has fought and won a long-drawn out war. One who can say with confidence that some may trust in chariots and horses but I will remember the name of the Lord, for his name is a strong tower and safe within those fortified walls, I have won a war and can now share the story of my gladiator fight.

This is a narrative of a female gladiator who fought and emerged victorious and whose story is told to encourage those still facing failure, that they will become gladiators, too. Nigerian woman found love at 47, married at 48 and gave birth to a baby boy before her 50th birthday  Her story for me, begins many years ago…I walked into Protea Hotel that day and saw this charming lady with two prominent features. A glittering golden skin and a gap tooth that added to her charm and poise. From a distance, I admired her, and was soon brought in close contact with her.

The WhatsApp group was formed for singles-still-waiting-still desirous to use the way of righteousness to achieve success. I was one of them and she came on board too. With rapt attention, I viewed her contributions to the group and was eager to meet her.

The day came, at Dominoes Pizza outlet. Her sweet presence filled the place and I listened with rapt attention to her tales of her walk in the walkways of singlehood. Daring, and open, she shared her story and I was fascinated. Another meeting was at a member’s house and she once again showed she is a sweetheart.

Many more virtual meetings followed, as I heard her voice through the thought-provoking comments she made on the WhatsApp group. She has shown she is a Tale Weaver convert, on the group. Anytime I post an article and only one person reads it, it is sure to be her. Her comments come in torrents, encouraging and heartwarming.

This gap-tooth queen, is one great encourager of my creativity. She bought my recent novels and gave me my very first job of tribute writing. I crafted a birthday tribute for a friend of hers and her appreciative comments made my day and encouraged me to take up the art form as a business venture. I refused financial compensation, but she insisted and rewarded me.

Was I thrilled that day in the year 2019, when she sent the message to the WhatsApp group. ‘I, Oladunni Idowu, finally found love at 47. Join me in appreciating God for his faithfulness and mercy. Indeed, delay is not denial.’

Her words of encouragement and inspiration brought to life dead dreams and shrivelled hopes. The members of the Mature Christian Singles celebrated one of their own, Ladunni, whose story of triumph made many believe in the message of an on-time God.

Ladunni’s story follows a trail of triumph. Of a lady who found love at 47, married at 48, got pregnant at age 49 and just before her 50th birthday, gave birth to a baby boy called Osarumuwese - The Lord has done me well; Oluwaseyitanfunmi - the Lord has done this for me in full and Nosakhare - God's Will.

On 25th June 2021, Ladunni took a rapid leap unto the 5th floor as the mother of a baby boy. I present the GOLDEN GLADIATOR, LADUNNI GIWA-OSAGIE, whose story has proved the biblical saying that weeping may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Ladunni’s marriage to Aigbovo Giwa-Osagie, whom I call the husband of the year, is an encouragement to those Christian sisters who are beckoning at compromise, because they feel that God has forgotten them and they want to 'help' themselves.

The Gap-tooth Queen has changed address and has made many ladies dress their lives with hope. I attended the GOLDEN CEREMONY OF LADUNNI’S ASCENSION to the fifth floor and the dedication of her son at White Stone Event Centre, Billingsway Ikeja, Lagos, on 25th June 2021, where the guests were bedecked in white, as a symbol of the purity of divine love and the freshness of a new season.

I watched Ladunni, who appeared at first in white lace with gold trimmings, and later as the lady in red, symbolizing the love she so freely shares with her husband. It was palpable as a touch, and people could not hold back their demonstrations of joy for the woman they came to honour.

Her husband dripped with joy and gratitude to God who gave him a woman he described as beyond amazing. When he stated that since he met her, he stopped having headaches, I could testify, for Ladunni is a woman who sprays her sweet fragrance wherever she steps into.

Her calls and words of encouragement to me, when she shared the testimony of her meeting with her beau, I cannot fail to recall. When she noticed my silence on the group, the absence of my usual birthday tributes for members, she alone checked on me and sent a voice note, praying for me, to uplift my spirits.

Beloved Ladunni, such an inspiring lady!

I watched the glow on her face on that day of her coronation as a gladiator and could see that it went beyond the signature of a skilful makeup artist. It was a glow from within. As though a pipe connected her innermost feelings of joy, to her outer expression of delight.

Beyond the music of Yinka Alaseyori of oniduromi fame, the presence of comedian Kenny Black and Sonma Anyama, Dave of My Siblings and I comedy by Funke Akindele, there was the atmosphere of undiluted joy, a crowning of a maiden’s desire.

To Ladunni Giwa-Osagie, the Golden Gladiator, I dedicate this message. To the Golden Gladiator, who has not performed to entertain, but whose testimony has paved a way for many ladies to anchor their trust in God, I present this tribute. Remain rooted in divinity.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) may increase fuel price after talks with Organised Labour. However, NNPC said for now, there was no plan to increase the official pump price from N162 in July. Group Managing Director (GMD) of NNPC, Malam Mele Kyari stated this on Tuesday during a programme on Channels Television.

He, however, noted that engagements were still ongoing with the Organised Labour to arrive at the appropriate price of the petroleum product, stating that until both parties arrive at a conclusion, the current price remains.

According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari instructed the corporation not to make petrol price out of reach of Nigerians, “especially at this moment”. “What this means, however, is that we are taking out cash that could have been used for other things to pay under-recovery”, he said. He revealed that Dangote refinery being constructed in Lagos State would commence operation this year.

Eighteen al-Shabab militants were executed Sunday in Galkayo town of Mudug, the Puntland State of Somalia, after being sentenced to death earlier by the court. Chairperson of Puntland state court Mohamud Abdi Mohamed said their court proceedings followed through different stages before the execution.

"Puntland State Court of Armed Forces executed 18 al-Shabab militants this morning. These convicts were all behind the killings of many of our important people here. The court took the right action against them," Mohamed said.

Al-Shabab militants termed the execution as a massacre of innocent civilians by the Puntland state. The militant group has carried out a series of assassinations and bombings in Galkayo and other parts of the Mudug region, and Puntland officials have vowed to bring to justice any member of the terrorist group or those who engage in terrorist activities. 10412  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / "Save Us" Nigerian Bakers Cry Out To FG, BUA Group And Others Are Killing Our Business on: 29-06-2021 10:09 AM

The Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria (AMBCN), Abuja, has called on the federal government to intervene in the recent price hike of flour by BUA Group – IRS Flour Mill (owned by billionaire Abdulsamad Rabiu), Super Four Mill and Golden Confectionery, stressing that the hike is killing their businesses and may also render many jobless if no action is taken.

In an exclusive chat with us on Monday, Kabiru Hassan Abdullahi, the national publicity secretary of the association who also doubles as its state secretary, Kano State branch, said that the price of flour was N9,500 not long ago but now it has reached N16,200. According to Abdullahi:, “The federal government should please come to our aid. The hike is killing our businesses and it’s sad they have refused to do anything about it. “The increment is over 50 per cent and it’s even more saddening because even with the dollar exchange rate of N1 to over N500, we still bought flour at same N9,500; but why is it now that the rate has dropped that they increasing the price? This is pure wickedness.

“What Abdulsamad Rabiu of BUA Group, IRS, super and golden confectionery are doing is unhealthy for us and the Nigerian economy. In fact, they are planning to increase it again by N7, 000. Can you can imagine?

“One thing they should know is that if we are scrapped out of the market, the rate of unemployment in the country will double up because many in their thousands will lose their jobs. “We are still meeting and as things stand, we may have no choice than to embark on an indefinite strike.

Iy was reported that bread makers and the Gurasa Bakers Association of Kano state had threatened to embark on indefinite strike if the flour companies (BUA Group – IRS, Super Mill and Golden Confectionery) fail to reverse the price of flour. Gurasa is a Kano indigenous local bread made up of flour that serves as one of delicacies used by Hausa people in the state.

Fatima Auwalu, the chairperson of the Gurasa Bakers Association had said nothing has changed since they called off the warning strike, rather, it is going up day by day, prompting them to embark on indefinite industrial action until authorities and stakeholders do the needful. She further lamented that apart from the increase in the price of flour, the quality of the product has been reduced, saying “this has negatively impacted our business.”

10414  Forum / Law and Crime / Court To Make Decision On The N2.4bn, $5.78m Linked To Former First Lady Patience Jonathan on: 29-06-2021 09:59 AM

The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, will on October 7, 2021, hear a motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeking the final forfeiture of N2.42billion and $5.78million linked to former First Lady, Patience Jonathan.

Justice T. G. Ringim fixed the date on Monday after argument by counsels. The EFCC had filed an ex-parte application before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun for the forfeiture of the funds in Skye Bank Plc and Ecobank Plc.

In April 2017, Justice Olatoregun ordered the temporary forfeiture of the money. Jonathan and other respondents, LA Wari Furniture and Bathes, opposed and approached the Court of Appeal and later the Supreme Court to challenge the ruling.

But they lost as the courts affirmed the order of Justice Olatoregun.  The judge retired from the Bench in 2019 and the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court re-assigned the case to Justice Chuka Obiozor.

However, Justice Obiozor could not preside before his transfer to the Federal High Court in Benin, Edo. At the resumed hearing, EFCC counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo narrated the matter to Justice Ringim and prayed for final forfeiture. Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN) and Gboyega Oyewole (SAN) appeared for Patience Jonathan. Counsel to the companies, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) urged the court to adjourn, adding that he was preparing to file an application challenging the constitutionality of the suit. Justice Ringim held that the nature of the proceedings was special and cannot be truncated by any application.

“This court will adjourn for the hearing of the motion for final forfeiture that is pending. “The second respondent is, hereby, ordered to file the application, if any, within 14 days from today, and the plaintiff will have one week to respond”, he said.
10415  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Nigerian Woman, Ms. Uruemu Adejinmi Elected As Ireland's First Black Mayor on: 29-06-2021 09:52 AM

Uruemu Adejinmi, a Nigerian immigrant, has been elected as Mayor of Longford County Council, marking a series of firsts for the county. She is the first migrant, first African and first black female to become Mayor. Ms Adejinmi's election as Cathaoirleach of Longford Municipal District also makes her the country's first female African Mayor. Her journey into politics began in 2016 when she supported a candidate in a local election. Shortly afterwards, her neighbour asked her to join Fianna Fáil.

"At that stage, I became very active. I was going to meetings and fundraisers, travelling to Dublin for the convention and getting involved in every way possible," she said. In 2018, she undertook an internship with the Immigrant Council of Ireland, shadowing Joe Flaherty while he was a local councillor. In 2020, Mr Flaherty became a T.D. and Ms Adejinmi was co-opted to his seat.

Ms Adejinmi said she was "deeply honoured" to take over as Mayor this year following a unanimous election. "There's a huge silo in getting information across to diverse community groups, so it's been amazing having that link to council offices to share information to migrants to help them to get access to services and support," she told The Irish Times.

There are barriers to migrants becoming involved in politics, particularly in more rural areas, Ms Adejinmi said. The main obstacle has been getting more migrants onto the electoral register.
"I speak from a Nigerian perspective and one big issue in that regard is there isn't a great trust with the police force. People are reluctant or not willing to engage with the police unless they have to because of experiences back home."

That cultural attitude "takes time for people to get around", she said. Political parties should "engage more actively" with migrants, as most don't see it as an area open for them to become involved in, she said.
"There is no shortage of talent in the migrant community but there is a shortage of community leaders from migrant backgrounds." "If it weren't for my neighbour asking me to join his party, I wouldn't have considered politics," she said. Getting to work, integrating into the community and nurturing her children were Ms Adejinmi's priorities until she was directly approached about getting involved.

She said her key priorities are jobs and housing. "I am hoping to lobby for an influx of industry. Hopefully, businesses will take a look at starting in Longford and that would help a lot of people who are leaving or commuting because of the lack of jobs."

A mild drama recently occurred in Dakanbi community somewhere in the South West in Nigeria after residents filed out to praise God after they found a chicken in their community clucking what they could interpret as “Olohun Dakun” meaning “God have mercy”.

One of the elderly women said: This is where the chickens come to eat when they leave their owners house. I sat down and heard the chicken say ''Olohun Dakun''. I said this is a miracle ooo...from the mouth of a chicken? The second day, it stood there again and clucked ''Olohun Dakun''.  I called Iya Kazeem and told her to come that a miracle is happening here, a chicken is clucking Olohun Dakun.''

Another resident, a female, while giving an account of how they found the ''wonder chicken'', said ''You see, on Thursday, a man who I know told me that in the middle of the night, he heard a chicken clucking Olohun Dakun but he didn't see the chicken. When he told us that were with him, I didn't take it serious.

However, when this old woman called me to come and see a chicken that was clucking Olohun Dakun, I went and saw the chicken and we started praising God. I asked who owns the chicken and they told me it is a christain woman living in this neighborhood.

When she came to my shop to buy something, she told me that this is what people were saying about her chicken. I told her it is true. She also witnessed as the chicken again clucked Olohun Dakun and said the chicken was giving a message'' The owner of the chicken, Mummy Blessing also confirmed that her chicken also clucked ''Olohun Dakun''

The residents gathered in front of the chicken as they prayed for God to have mercy.

10419  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / UAE Suspends Direct Employment Visa For Nigerians Over Rising Crimes on: 29-06-2021 09:19 AM

The United Arab Emirates government has suspended Direct Employment Visa for Nigerians, as a result of the increasing rate of crimes involving Nigerians in the Middle-East country. UAE police are searching for more Nigerian nationals and conducting raids and arrests to get them jailed. Sources noted that this is the norm in Abu Dhabi particularly.

“We all are shouting that our country is bad, and that our government is not rising to our needs, which is true, but our reputation abroad is also fast declining due to our character. Two weeks ago, some Nigerians killed one another for selfish reasons at Sharjah, and another one just happened here in Abu Dhabi, when some guys went to an Arab man’s house, killed him, his wife and took away a huge amount of money from them. The UAE government is now tracking every Nigerian in Abu Dhabi and they have also banned every Direct Employment Visa from Nigeria until further notice,” the source said.

“For like one week, this city (Abu Dhabi) has been hot. They (the police) are just arresting anyone on sight now. There was a cult incident where Nigerian cult members hacked one another in an area in Abu Dhabi here. It is not easy.

As of yesterday (Monday), they have put restrictions on visas for Nigerians. For now, no work permit for Nigerians in UAE generally. The crisis started from Sharjah and last week in Abu Dhabi,” another Nigerian said.
