Professor John Ibu, the father-inlaw of Pastor Paul Enenche, founder of Dunamis International Gospel Centre has been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged N24.6 million fraud.

On June 28, the EFCC announced that its Makurdi Zonal Office arraigned Dr Paul Enenche's father-in-law, Professor John Ibu, alongside one Chief Abukenchi Suleiman and his company, ADB Motors Venters Nigeria Limited before Justice Abdu Dogo of the Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State.
They were arraigned on charges of conspiracy and obtaining N24, 650,000 (twenty-four million, six hundred and fifty thousand Naira only) by false pretences. The EFCC alleged that the duo obtained the said sum from the Benue State University Teaching Hospital under the guise of purchasing a Toyota Landcruiser Prado 2018 Model which was never bought.
Count one of the charge reads: "That you, Professor John Ibu, being the Board Chairman, Benue State University Teaching Hospital, you Chief Abukenchi Suleiman, being the Managing Director ADB Motors Ventures Nigeria Ltd and you, ADB Motors Ventures Nigeria Ltd sometime in July 2019 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud conspired amongst yourselves and obtained the sum of N24,650,000 (Twenty Four Million Six Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira only) from the Benue State University Teaching Hospital Board for the purchase of a Toyota Landcruiser Prado 2018 Model under false pretences that you have the capacity to supply which pretence you knew was false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 8(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under section 1(3) of the same Act."
Count two reads: "That you, Professor John Ibu, being the Board Chairman, Benue State University Teaching Hospital sometime in July 2019 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did use your position to confer an unfair advantage to yourself by collecting a bribe, to the tune of N10, 900,000 (Ten Million Nine Hundred Thousand Naira only), from one Chief Abukenchi Suleiman of ADB Motors Ventures Nig. Ltd, on behalf of Atirogo & Sons Enterprises, paid into Access Bank account Number 0049185884, a company you're the Managing Director and thereby committed an offence, contrary to Section 19 of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000 and punishable under the same Act."
The defendants pleaded "not guilty" to the charges preferred against them. Based on their pleas, prosecution counsel, George Chia-Yakua asked for a trial date and that the defendants be remanded in a correctional facility.
However, counsel for Professor John Ibu, S. O. Vekuwu, moved a motion for the bail of his client on self-recognizance. He informed the court that his client had been on administrative bail offered by the EFCC.
The Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has been quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for spending N1.03 billion to purchase refurbished vehicles for members of the House.
He was drilled on Thursday. Ogundoyin and other lawmakers who were involved in the purchase were arrested around 8 am on Thursday and released around 7 pm the same day. Our correspondent reports that after the purchase of the vehicles which residents of the state described as refurbished, some vehicles were seen breaking down by the roadside.
A source close to the Assembly confirmed their arrest to us in Ibadan on Sunday but refused to give the names of the lawmakers arrested. He said he knew the Speaker of the House, Ogundoyin was fully involved in the purchase of the vehicles, adding that the supplier of the vehicles was his close associate. It was recalled that a former prosecutor with the Special Presidential Panel on Recovery of Public Property, Tosin Ojaomo, had in January this year petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over allegations of a scam in the purchase of about N1.03 billion worth of official cars for members of the Oyo State House of Assembly.
According to the petition dated December 7, 2020, the contract, which was executed by a firm (name withheld), was for the procurement of 33 Toyota Camry cars for the House members and the Clerk at N759 million as well as two Toyota Hilux pick-up vans for the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, at N40m.
According to the petition, two Toyota Prado Land Cruiser SUVs valued at N106 million were also purchased for the Deputy Speaker, Abiodun Fadeyi and as Ogundoyin’s back-up vehicles, the petition stated.
Ojaomo, in his petition, alleged that the contract was for the supply of new 2019 vehicle models but noted that refurbished models with cleaned-up mileage were supplied instead.
The lawyer claimed that the contract was fraudulently arranged to favour the contractor instead of Elizade Motors and Mandilas Motors which also tendered quotations.
He added that the alleged scam was discovered when some of the 33 cars supplied by the contractor started having mechanical and electrical problems a few days after delivery to the lawmakers.
Ojaomo, therefore, in the petition asked the EFCC to recover the full contract sum from the firm. The petition read in part, “My petition stemmed from recent findings that the sum of N1,031,380,000 earmarked by the Oyo State Assembly for the purchase of vehicles for honourable members of the house was diverted by the Speaker and Deputy Speaker with the connivance of a company contracted to handle the purchase and supply of cars to the House members.
“The contract was awarded for the supply of brand new Toyota Camry 2019 models but instead of supplying new cars, he went ahead to supply refurbished vehicles and clean up the mileage in order to make them look like new ones.” Meanwhile, Chairman, House Committee on Information, Kazeem Olayanju, described the allegations as false.

Former Niger Delta militant Asari Dokubo said a video of him that has gone viral where he was mocking and threatening Nnamdi Kanu's leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra is an old video.
According to reports crediting Dokubo with saying that he would smoke out Kanu and that Kanu’s madness “neva started”, were based on a video released by Dokubo on 31 May, 2020. The report further added that Asari Dokubo is yet to issue a comment on the matter. The viral video, which had attracted 355,000 views and over 6,500 comments was made during another context.
It found its way back into the social media on Saturday in the wake of Kanu’s arrest in Kenya and his scheduled trial for treason on 26 July. The last post made by the ex-militant on his Dokubo Asari Justice Foundation Facebook page was on 19 June, when he canvassed for Ijaw self-determination.
In the 10-minute video, mischievously used to fit the times, Dokubo addressed the public spat between him and Kanu over claims that Kanu gave him N20million of Biafra money. Dokubo had debunked the allegation then and even challenged Kanu to swear whether he was collecting money from Igbo governors.
The video was Dokubo’s further response to Kanu. In the video, he described Kanu as a conman, who preyed on the gullibility of Biafrans, collected their money in the name of Defence Fund, and used it to gallivant all over the world.
“I promised you I will smoke you out,” a mirthful Dokubo said in the viral video. “Your madness never start, this one wey start now na market he dey go. You have harmed Biafrans and traded with us so much. “You collect our money in the name of defence funds and you cannot give account. “You are demanding that all Biafrans should pay money to you on monthly basis or they will not be allowed to enter Biafra. Doesn’t that make you a conman, an extortionist?
“You alleged that that you gave me N20 million, video doesn’t lie. “When I stated it last year leading to election, you were so cowardly not to respond to me. You sent your followers to respond to me and they said a lot of things and I demanded the evidence that I demanded N20 million from you.
“I have never been a member of IPOB, you gave me N20 million, tell us is it by bank transfer, is it by cash, who brought the cash to me? I’m waiting. Produce the evidence,” he challenged Nnamdi Kanu.
Dokubo challenged Nnamdi Kanu to show Nigerians what he does for a living.
“Where are you working? Who is paying you? Where do you get the money to gallivant everywhere? Do you pick money? Do you print money? Or does money fall from heaven? You are a conman and a liar.

Bandits have attacked Bethel Baptist School, a private college located at Maraban Rido area in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting an unspecified number of students.
The kidnappers were said to have invaded the school, located along Kaduna – Kachia road in the early hours of Monday, and started shooting sporadically into the air before kidnapping the students. Four of the students escaped while the rest were taken away by the bandits to an unknown destination.
Hoodlums have chopped off the manhood of Matador from Orsu Iheti Ukwa in Imo State. The man was seen tied in a viral video horizontally to a stick and subjected to inhuman treatment by the suspected hoodlums.
The hoodlums were heard accusing him of being a saboteur responsible for military bombardment of Orlu during an encounter with the Easterner Security Network (ESN), the security arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) It was learnt the man, in his late 50s, was picked by masked men in a dramatic operation along Okigwe roundabout, Owerri on Saturday.

Imo Commissioner of Police Abutu Yaro confirmed the Command “is aware of the iniquitous and obscene video that has gone viral on social media where, a man was seen tied horizontally to a stick undergoing inhuman act by some suspected hoodlums.” In a statement by Imo Police spokesman CSP Michael Abattam, Yaro said the Command has commenced investigation into the viral video to unravel the truth behind it.
President Muhammadu Buhari has said Nigerians are to blame for all the problems bedevilling the country. He urged Nigerians to stop blaming ethnicity and religion.The President spoke while receiving members of the Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo (MBO) Dynamic Support Group, at the State House in Abuja.
This was contained in a statement by his spokesman, Femi Adesina. Recounting his struggles to get justice at the courts, after disputed results of presidential elections in 2003, 2007, and 2011, Buhari submitted that people who ruled against him were of his own ethnic stock and religious persuasion, while those who stood up for him were of other faiths and ethnicity.
“Our problem is not ethnicity or religion, it is ourselves,” the President submitted.
“After my third appearance in the Supreme Court, I came out to speak to those who were present then. I told them that from 2003, I’d spent 30 months in court. “The President of the Court of Appeal, the first port of call for representation by presidential candidates then, was my classmate in secondary school in Katsina. We spent six years in the same class, Justice Umaru Abdullahi.
“My legal head was Chief Mike Ahamba, a Roman Catholic and an Ibo man. When the President of the court decided that we should present our case, my first witness was in the box. “Ahamba insisted that a letter should be sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to present the register of constituencies in some of the States, to prove that what they announced was falsehood. It was documented.
“When they gave judgment, another Ibo man, the late Justice Nsofor, asked for the reaction from INEC to the letter sent to them. They just dismissed it. He then decided to write a minority judgment. That was after 27 months in court.
“We went to the Supreme Court. Who was the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN)? A Hausa-Fulani like me, from Zaria. The members of the panel went in for about 30 minutes, came back to say they were proceeding on break. They went for 3 months. When they came back, it didn’t take them 15 minutes, they dismissed us.
“In 2007, who was the CJN? Kutigi. Again, a Muslim from the North. After 8 months or so, he dismissed the case. “Again in 2011, because I was so persistent, Musdafa, a Fulani man like me, from Jigawa, neighbour to my state, was a CJN. He dismissed my case.
“I’ve taken you round this to prove that our problem is not ethnicity or religion. It is ourselves. “I refused to give up. I had tried to wear Agbada after what happened to me in Khaki.”
There was a shootout between security operatives attached to the convoy of Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, and some armed bandits along Shema in Katsina State on their way back to Kano from Zamfara State.
Although Ganduje was not in the convoy, it came under attack by bandits who blocked Zamfara, Katsina and Kano Road, around Shema on Tuesday..Ganduje was in Zamfara to attend the formal defection of Governor Bello Matawale into the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
But after the event, Ganduje joined the Jigawa State Governor, Muhammadu Abubakar Badaru, back to Kano, which explains why he was not in his convoy. A source told us that Ganduje was not happy that his convoy did not fill their tanks for the return journey and he ordered them to proceed while he joined Badaru.
However, on their way back to Kano, the convoy came under heavy gun attacks from the bandits, but was repealed by the security operatives attacked to the convoy. However, three police officers sustained minor bullet injuries, while the convoy ambulance was riddled with bullets. Another vehicle was said to have lost its tires after being hit by bullets. It however managed to drive to a safer place before the tires were changed.
Abubakar Malami, Nigeria’s Attorney-General of the Federation, on Tuesday, announced the arrest and extradition of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The IPOB leader was subsequently re-arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja. Binta Nyako, the presiding judge, ordered that the Department of State Services (DSS) remand Kanu till July 26 for the continuation of trial.
He is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony instituted against him at the court in response to years of campaign for the independent Republic of Biafra through IPOB. He was granted bail in April 2017 for health reasons but skipped bail after flouting some of the conditions given to him by the court. In a broadcast via Radio Biafra in 2019, Kanu boasted that the Nigerian court lacked the power to try him, describing the court as a Kangaroo court.
He averred that he wasn’t a Nigerian citizen and vowed to challenge every move by the Nigerian government to convict him becuase he has done nothing wrong.
"The revocation of my bail will never ever hold; they can never convict us because we have done nothing wrong. "Every move they make, every decision they take, I will challenge. I have instructed my lawyers, we will challenge in a competent court of law here in Britain where law actually works. I am waiting for them. "Any day you instruct INTERPOL, that day I will take it up in court and they must answer because here is a civilised country.
"First, I am not a Nigerian citizen. Your bail revocation will never ever work. Anybody interested in revoking my bail would have asked the army what they were doing in my place,” he said.
Everton hired Rafael Benitez as their new manager on Wednesday despite fan protests against the Premier League club's move for the former Liverpool boss. Benitez agreed a three-year contract with Everton and succeeds Carlo Ancelotti, who left Goodison Park to join Real Madrid at the start of June.

A woman who has been living in Germany for more than a decade has begun searching for the good stranger who made it possible for her to relocate overseas. In 2006, Leah Mugure Mburu was on the streets of Nairobi, Kenya hawking socks when she bumped into a client who changed her life forever. The young man, who she could only identify as Brian held a conversation with her and she opened up about her struggles.

Veteran Nollywood actress, Idowu Phillips, popularly known as Iya Rainbow, has stated that she begged Princess to drop Baba Ijesha's defilement case for four days but she refused. Speaking in a recent chat with BBC Yoruba, Iya Rainbow said she did everything humanly possible to get Princess not to escalate the case but she did not succumb. According to her, she said now that Baba Ijesha has been released, things have to be resolved amicably among the theatre practitioners.

Toyota, a Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer, has snubbed Nigeria, as it opened an assembly plant in Ghana. The plant, which was established to assembly Toyota Hilux pick-up and other sedans by the Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing Company Limited, is located in the Freezones Enclave in Tema.
President Akufo-Addo of Ghana commissioned the plant yesterday (Tuesday, June 29, 2021), saying the development will help make the acquisition of new vehicles by Ghanaians more affordable as well as enable public sector workers to be able to afford and purchase locally assembled vehicles.
“Government will continue to create the enabling environment to boost the profitability of the emerging automobile sector in Ghana,” he was quoted as saying.

Following a demeaning comment on the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nigerians on social media have lashed out at Bashir El-Rufai. Bashir is the son of Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
He had made some tweets mocking Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra following his rearrest by the FG. Bashir had in a tweet on Tuesday suggested that Kanu be locked up in a cell with a cow after news of the IPOB leader's arrest broke. The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Wednesday officially granted China a malaria-free certification as a token of celebration of the country’s successful elimination of the disease after 70 years of its struggles against malaria. From 30 million malaria cases in the 1940s, China brought down that number over the last decades, to have finally achieved no cases in the last four years, the WHO said.
“Today we congratulate the people of China on ridding the country of malaria,’’ said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “Their successes weres hard-earned and came only after decades of targeted and sustained action,’’ he added. China’s efforts against malaria started in the 1950s, as the disease was rampant in the southern part of the country, close to other hotspots in mainland Southeast Asia.
The “523 Project’’ a research programme launched in 1967, allowed Chinese Nobel Prize winner Tu Youyou to discover artemisinin, one of the most effective antimalarial drugs nowadays, according to WHO.
Over the last two decades, China ramped up its efforts and reduced the number of cases in the 1990s from 117,000 to 5,000 annually by providing staff training, laboratory equipment, antimalarial medicines and new methods to control mosquito propagation.
The “1-3-7’’ strategy one day to report a case, three days to confirm a case and seven days to prevent further spread of the disease was also a tool of success and was still used nowadays for travelers coming from malaria-infected countries.
No cases were reported in China in the last four years, warranting the malaria-free credential by the WHO.
“Over many decades, China’s ability to think outside the box served the country well in its own response to malaria, and also had a significant ripple effect globally.’’ Pedro Alonso, director of the WHO Global Malaria Programme said.
