The Nigerian army has released a civilian, Emmanuel Odaudu detained for 8 months over a post he made on Facebook. Odaudu regained his freedom after languishing in the Nigerian Army Special Investigation Bureau underground cell in Abuja for over eight months because of an old Facebook video.
Emmanuel was released on Friday, June 11, 2021, following a series of reports by this medium drawing attention to his plight and the involvement of human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN. Falana had described Emmanuel’s continued detention by the military as illegal and unconstitutional, adding “Our law firm is taking up this matter and we are going to demonstrate through this case that the Nigerian Army has no power under the law to arrest a civilian without transferring him/her to the police in line with the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.”
Emmanuel’s mother, Helen, had lamented that her son’s ordeal started when he was in the Army, explaining that he was detained over an old video posted on Facebook, where he was seen rapping while in uniform.
She also said that efforts to secure his release after he was arrested in their hometown of Otukpo, Benue State, proved abortive. Helen, who spoke to us on Tuesday, said though the case against her son was still ongoing, he had been released from detention. The joyous mother stated, “My son has been released, but when I went to see the lawyer representing us from Falana and Falana Chambers, he said the case is still on and that the Army is not withdrawing it.
“He was released on Friday, June 11, 2021. I was very happy when I saw him; it was like a dream come true. I appreciate God, my special thanks goes to PUNCH Newspapers, the Falana and Falana Chambers and every other person, who stood by me during my trying period.”
A man has left his wife seriously injured for cheating on him. It was gathered that the 'possessive' husband beat his wife with a crowbar at a bus stop in New York as witnesses watched in horror before calling the police. Julio Aponte, 63, used the crowbar to repeatedly bash his 49-year-old wife in the head at about 7 a.m. Monday, June 14 at the corner of W. 163rd St. and Fort Washington Ave., screaming accusations likeHow dare you cheat on me! “” Police said.
He then ran away from the crime scene on a motorcycle, leaving his bloodied wife behind while shocked witnesses called the police. Shortly afterward the violent husband ditched the motorcycle on the road and called 911 himself to turn himself in, cops said. Police found the crowbar, wrapped in plastic, as well as Aponte’s backpack at the scene of the attack, police say.
The woman was then rushed to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia in cardiac arrest after she suffered severe head trauma, police said. She remains in critical condition as at Tuesday, June 15. Police have charged Aponte with attempted murder and assault. He awaits arraignment in Manhattan criminal court.
Instagram has deleted the page of former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, from its platform. This comes barely two days after Google deleted his Crowwe app from the Play Store. A recent check showed that Instagram had taken down the APC Chieftain’s IG account from the popular image and video sharing app, with his page displaying ‘the user not found.’ When contacted on Tuesday for comments on the development, Garba told The Gazette that Instagram took down his account because some users reported him.
“It was reported by some users and was disabled by Instagram,” he said. The reason for reporting Garba’s account was unclear as of the time of filing this report. But lately, he has received a public backlash regarding his Crowwe app accused of disingenuity. Instagram is known for banning accounts that violate its policy or reported for spam, fraud, or a fake account.
His deleted Crowwe app had suffered a similar fate when Twitter users criticised the application on various grounds, including its privacy policy.
A woman in the Indian town of Kerala who went missing 11 years ago was recently found living just 500 meters from her parent’s home, in the house of a man she had fallen in love with. Sajitha left her family home in 2010 and hadn’t been seen since then, but unknown to her family she was not far from home. Her family had given up hope of ever finding her, after she simply walked out of the house one day, and never came back. Thinking that she had died or was living thousands of miles away somewhere, they never even entertained the idea that she could be in the same village, let alone in walking distance from them.
As it turns out, the woman, who was 18 at the time of her disappearance, simply walked out of the family home and into that of her secret lover, a local man who she was convinced her parents wouldn’t approve of. The young woman didn’t leave any clues when she left her family home, didn’t carry a phone and police couldn’t really provide any real assistance. Her parents didn’t suspect a romantic affair with someone so close to them, as it takes two to elope and there was no one else missing from Ayalur village, in Kerala.
Sajitha was only discovered earlier this month after her 34-year-old lover, Alinchuvattil Rahman suddenly disappeared from his family home three months ago, and his family notified the police. His brother Basheer happened to notice him on the side of the road one day, and managed to follow him to a house in a neighboring village, which he had rented with Sajitha.
Police took the couple before a local court, which allowed them to legally live together after hearing their story. Apparently, the two come from two different religions and were sure that their families wouldn’t approve of their love, so they decide to be together in secret.
“Their story sounds unusual, but we took the couple to Rahman’s house and they told us how Sajitha had lived secretly in a single room for all these years,” Nenmara Police Station House Officer Deepa Kumar A told the Indian Express.
Rahman’s family reportedly also didn’t know about her presence in their home either. The young man, who works as a house painter, allegedly had a separate room that he kept under lock and key, so no one else could get in. Since he got angry if anyone even asked about his room, his parents never really bothered him about it.
“Sometimes he behaved like a mentally deranged person, would turn violent if someone tried to get into his room. “He would even take his food in to eat… During the day, as everyone was at work, Rahman and Sajitha would have the house to themselves,” the man’s bother, Basheer said. Rahman’s room didn’t have its own bathroom, so he had the metal bars on its window sawed off when she moved in, so she could sneak out to use the toilet at night or when his parents, who work as daily wagers, were away. She even washed and dried her clothes in the same tiny room. Sajitha apparently kept herself entertained by watching a small TV with earphones on.
According to Rahman’s neighbors, he always kept to himself, was very secretive, so some of them thought he had mental issues. He apparently eloped with his beloved three months ago, after his family started pressuring him about an arranged marriage. He never objected, to avoid suspicion, but always avoided the subject. When Sajitha was discovered, most of the locals in the village were shocked as they had almost forgotten all about her.

Minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed has said that Twitter and its founder, Jack Dorsey, are liable for the losses the country suffered during the EndSARS protests. He stated this when he featured on Radio Nigeria on Tuesday.
Mohammed stated that Dorsey raised funds through Bitcoins to sponsor the EndSARS protests while his platform, Twitter, was used to fuel the crisis. The Minister stated that Nigerians did not take him seriously when he made the allegations earlier, until investigations were carried out by an online media outfit. The minister said the online publication confirmed that Dorsey retweeted some posts by coalitions supporting the EndSARS protests and further launched an emoji to make the protest visible on the microblogging site.
“If you ask people to donate money via bitcoins for EndSARS protesters then you are vicariously liable for whatever is the outcome of the protest,” he said. “We have forgotten that EndSARS led to loss of lives, including 37 policemen, six soldiers, 57 civilians while property worth billions of naira were destroyed.
“164 police vehicles and 134 police stations were razed to the ground, 265 private corporate organisation were looted while 243 public property were looted. “81 warehouses were looted while over 200 brand new buses bought by Lagos state government were burnt to ashes.”
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has revealed on Tuesday that he has gotten a message from Twitter asking for dialogue over the ban placed by the federal government. Mohammed confirmed this when he featured on “Politics Nationwide,’’ a Radio Nigeria call-in programme monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
“I can confirm that Twitter has written the Federal Government that they are ready to talk. “As we have always maintained, the door is not locked and we are open-minded but Twitter must work toward it,” he said. The minister reiterated the government’s position that it would not tolerate any platform that would be used to destabilise the country. Mohammed said among other conditions for Twitter to resume operation in Nigeria, there must be an agreement as to what contents it could post.
He said Twitter and other platforms must also register as a Nigerian company, obtain license from the National Broadcasting Commission(NBC) and be guided by the rules of the licensing as well as pay taxes. According to the minister, regulation of social media platforms is becoming a global practice. He said most countries were just waking up to the fact that the platforms were becoming more powerful than even government and needed to be regulated. “Singapore, Algeria, Pakistan, Turkey regulate the social media, Australia has done so.” Even EU that does not have particular laws on social media has made recommendations in a white paper,” he said.
The minister said that the UK initiated a new law which would make social media companies to be fined up to 18 million pounds (about N10.8 billion) if they failed to stamp out online abuses. He said Google was fined 220 million Euros (about N110 billion) on June 7 by French Competition Regulator for abusing its dominance in the online advertising market in France.
Similarly, the minister said the Federal Cabinet of Pakistan had approved a new set of rules to regulate social media. In the rules, according to the minister, companies such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and even TikTok were to register and open offices in Pakistan.
He said in compliance with the new online broadcasting rule of Turkey, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video had obtained licences from that country’s broadcasting authority. Mohammed noted that regulation of social media was not synonymous with stifling press freedom.
“We must not confuse press freedom with irresponsibility. “How can you stay in your country and allow your own platform to be used to propagate war in another country? “The suspension of Twitter is to ensure that no particular platform is used to cause war in Nigeria. “Secondly, to ensure that whoever is making money in Nigeria must be made to pay tax.
“Our appeal to Nigerians is that they should understand where we are coming from. “We have no intention to stifle people’s freedom or to cut off the source of livelihood of anybody. “There must be a country devoid of war before we can talk of freedom and a source of living,’’ he said. NAN reports that the Federal Government on June 4 suspended indefinitely the operations of the microblogging and social networking service in Nigeria.
Mohammed, who announced the suspension, cited the persistent use of the platform for activities capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence. He said the Federal Government had also directed the NBC to immediately commence the process of licensing all Over the Top (OTT) and social media operations in the country. NAN reports that OTT media service is offered directly to viewers through the internet.
Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, has disclosed that in the cause of fighting corruption, he has been receiving death threats. He spoke on Tuesday when he featured in Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily. President Muhammadu Buhari had in November 2016 said, “Corruption is fighting back vigorously”.
When asked on Tuesday if indeed corruption is fighting back, Bawa said, “Last week, I was in New York, as all Nigerians are aware of. A very senior citizen received a phone call from somebody that is not even under investigation. What he (the caller) said to him on phone is that; he is going to kill the EFCC chairman, the young man.
“He said, ‘I am going to kill him. I am going to kill him’. This is to tell you how bad it is. It is actually real. Corruption can fight back.” When further asked if he meant he has been receiving death threats, the EFCC chairman said, “Yes”. The President had in February 2021 named 40-year-old Bawa as the new EFCC chairman to replace the embattled ex-acting chairman of the anti-graft commission, Ibrahim Magu.
Founder, Christ Apostolic Miracle Ministry, Apostle Paul Okikijesu has said that God is about to reject the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. According to the cleric, God said that if the president refuses to change, He will reject his government just like He rejected the government of biblical character, King Saul.
“Thus says the Lord: If the President refuses to quickly make amendments during this period, I will change hands concerning his government, says the Lord God of hosts,” he said. Speaking further, Apostle Okikijesu said that the actions of the Presidents of Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Ghana do not please God.
He stated; “Thus says the Lord: If these leaders refuse to take steps of rectification, My judgment will come upon them mightily.
“If they refuse to pay attention to the voice of I the Lord from the mouths of the religious advisers; if they elevate humans or idols more than I the Lord; then the judgment of I the Lord will come upon them and I the Lord will work with a harsh judgment hand.
“They will not be able to continue their tenure because their position will be given to their neighbors that are better than them. That is, the people who will occupy their posts are beside them; the positions will be taken away from them, says the Lord God of hosts, unless they repent and amend their ways.
“They should write down this period; if they refuse to take steps of rectification; if they refuse to turn to I the Lord; if they refuse to turn to the God of heavens who is the God of the Hebrews; God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit; if they refuse to ask the religious advisers who are filled with the Holy Spirit, to inquire what the Lord wants and expects from their governance. If they refuse to take all these steps, then, they will be removed from office, and their positions will be given to their neighbors who are better than them.
“They will lose their positions, and the judgment of I the Lord will come upon them. They will witness a severe hand of judgment; because what I the Lord had spoken concerning their souls will happen, so they should believe that there is no powerful being that has power over his/her own soul. “Thus says the Lord: I the Lord is the owner of the souls of these Presidents, and I the Lord can ask for their souls anytime that I like; with no one who can obstruct or delay me.
“Thus says the Lord of hosts: It is not Apostle Paul Okikijesu who owns the souls of these Presidents, but it is I the Lord God of hosts who is God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Israel. I, the God of their forefathers is the One who owns their souls. I the Lord can ask for their souls anytime that I like, and their posts will be given to their neighbors who are better than them”.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 23-year-old Nigerian national identified as Echezonachukwu O. Obianefo, for allegedly stealing a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, which is valued at around $300,000. Obianefo, of Houston, Texas, United States, is being held in the Harris County Jail in Houston and his bail was set at $50,000.
Obianefo is the manager of Osita Links and Logistics Group LLC, which provides transportation services. The freight shipping trucking company, owned by Mary Obianefo, was incorporated on April 8, 2021, and is based in Houston.
The owner of the vehicle allegedly stolen, Echezonachukwu, is a resident of Florida, USA, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s office. It is not clear whether the vehicle was stolen in Houston or in Florida. The date when the alleged crime was committed was not announced.
A married man, Emmanuel Isibor is in police custody after his girlfriend died in a hotel room where they both lodged in the Festac Town area of Lagos. The victim, identified simply as Esther, reportedly lodged with Isibor at the hotel on the night of May 31. It was learnt that the victim suddenly took ill and began foaming in the mouth and nostrils.
A terrified Isibor was said to have frantically called the hotel manager for help and the manager was joined by other staff of the hotel. It was further learnt that the team rushed Esther to FirstLine Hospital but she died on the way. On arrival at the hospital, the doctor on duty was said to have certified that she was brought in dead.
The hotel manager, Obijomi Adedeji, lodged a report of the incident at the FESTAC Police Station. This led to the arrest of the suspect, who is currently undergoing interrogation over the death. Confirming the incident, state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said that the case was reported to the police and the matter was under investigation. He said that the suspect has been detained pending the outcome of investigations.

A member of Drake’s entourage ‘DJ Akademiks’, has released exclusive footage of the singer’s private jet. Drake acquired the jet back in May 2019. The vessel dubbed “Air Drake” is a Boeing 767. The footage, which was reposted by several bloggers, shows Drake’s swanky ride, which features two private bedrooms. Decorated in a 1980’s style, it has lots of gold features, plush sofa seats in soft cream and peachy colors, and shiny wood paneling. It also features leather seats and tables, mirrored walls, and plush carpets.
The plane is reportedly 23 years old and, under normal circumstances, would seat roughly 181 passengers. It’s reported that Drake got the $100 million plane for free in a deal with Cargojet Airways. The stripping of the original design and the renovation was estimated to cost between $80 and $100 million, putting the aircraft in the $200 million region.
Under the deal with Cargojet Airways, Drake owns the company publicly. As the rapper travels the world on tour, the brand hopes to gain publicity and brand recognition. Not a bad deal for a $100 million ride. As per the terms of the deal, Drake has been putting “Air Drake” to work, frequently flying between the States and his hometown in Canada. He has even taken the jumbo jet to the Caribbean for vacation several times.
A South African man has asserted that men who do not cheat are usually in such positions due to certain situations beyond their control. Bongani Raymond, as he is identified on Twitter, stated that all men cheat and anyone who doesn’t do so is either unemployed or has a physical disability. He was reacting to a tweet from another Twitter user, who said she would never forgive and accept back a man who cheated on her.
I’d rather date the whole of SA than to forgive a cheater,” she tweeted. Reacting, Raymond took to her comment section and wrote; ”Is there a man out there who doesn’t cheat? Men who don’t cheat are either jobless, have a disability or in jail.”
One of the wives of late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola has revealed that three armed robbers who ambushed her husband many years ago later became governor and lawmakers. Zainab Duke-Abiola narrated how the iconic late politician, was ambushed by armed robbers on his way to Ibadan, Oyo state. She said the armed robbers started shouting ‘MKO, is our man, Man of the people’ on sighting the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
Speaking to us, the Akasoba of Kalabari land in the Niger Delta added that one of the gunmen later became a governor while two others were elected into the House of Representatives. She said, “Abiola was unique and different, that’s why people miss him. There was a day we were going to visit the Olubadan of Ibadan. We were with some Americans, the Americans are still alive, I was newly married to him. Very newly married, just few months into our marriage. And we were going to the palace, on the way, do you know right in front of us, we saw robbers robbing people. I just started praying and the Americans were shivering.
“But when Chief saw them, he said he was not turning back nor running away. He told the driver to keep driving towards them. On getting near them, they saw the Rolls Royce and they started shouting ‘MKO is our man o, Man of the people.’
“Do you know they kept their guns down? Do you know they laid down flat? I am telling you what you won’t hear from anyone else except the Americans and the driver. They started shouting ‘baba ooo, baba oooo, baba ooooo’, so Chief came out and gave them money. He told them they were nice young persons and shouldn’t be involved in crime. They told him if they were two or three of him in the country, they wouldn’t be involved in crime. They told their victims to go, some of the victims told Chief they didn’t have transport means, so Chief gave the robbers and victims money.
“The Americans were surprised as well, I too was happy. Chief told them to go back to school and come to his house anytime they needed money. One of those people became the governor of a Yoruba state, he is alive, about two or so became House of Representatives' members. Why are they not repeating this story, were they not fans at that point?”
Years after their disbandment, the Bakassi Boys, a vigilante group in the South East, have returned to some parts of Awka, Anambra State capital. They were seen in vans, singing and warning criminals.
However, it could not be confirmed who invited the dreaded vigilante group. A Senior Police Officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said some security men arrived at the state, but failed to confirm if they were sent by the government. The Miss Africa Russia pageantry was held on Sunday, June 13, and one of the highlights of the event was when Nigeria’s representative, Udeh Chiamaka Victoria stepped out with a blood stained Nigerian flag.
At the event which was held in Moscow, Miss Udeh walked with a blood-stained flag which gained prominence after the alleged shooting at Lekki Toll Gate during the #EndSARS protest. The event was held on Sunday, June 13 in Moscow.
