A video making rounds online show the moment the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC female squad were on a kidnap rescue drill. NSCDC recently commissioned its female squad as part of strategies to address the present security challenges confronting the nation.
In the video, the squad could be seen armed to the teeth and showing how it intends to rescue kidnap victims, especially those abducted from schools. The squad was set up as a safe school initiative aimed at ensuring the safety of school children and restoring the confidence of students, parents, teachers and the host communities.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has expressed that if the law permits, he would prefer that operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, carry AK-47 rifles to boost security operations.
He stated this on Tuesday at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, while delivering his keynote address at the maiden ‘Governor ‘Seyi Makinde National Democracy Summit’.
He pointed out that the success recorded so far by the outfit is due to the recruitment system which ensures that the operatives are selected from their local terrains. He expressed that the challenges facing the nation would have been effectively addressed, if state governments are given the power to control security operatives in their states. “We need to fully appreciate that state policing is a sure cure to our national development challenges. Anyone who has been involved in security at any level will tell you that policing is local,” Makinde said, according to a statement by Taiwo Adisa, his spokesman.
“One of the reasons why the Western Nigeria Security Network, code-named Amotekun, is recording success is because members of the corps are drawn from the locality. They know the terrain and so can gather needed intelligence. Also, they can be held accountable by the local people.“When the state governors become the actual Chief Security Officers in charge of the security personnel in their state, they can quickly respond to security challenges.
“Yes, we will continue to do our best. We were able to get Amotekun off the ground and it is in operation now. But there are several limitations to what Amotekun can do right now, and the types of firearms they can carry. If we are given the authority and licence, I will also buy AK-47 rifles for Amotekun.“So, these are just two areas where true federalism will bring greater economic benefits and development to Nigerian states.”
In what will come across as a really startling development, a petrol tanker has fallen in Lagos State. The petrol tanker reportedly fell near Abule-Ado junction in Satellite Town, Lagos and a video showing the scene of the incident has been shared online.

A young boy who is just a 17-year-old boy in France has been arrested by the police. The boy was arrested after stabbing his father to death and then sharing images of the crime scene online, investigators said on Tuesday, June 8.
The 17-year-old in Ploeren, a town of about 6,000 in the northwestern Brittany region, called police late Saturday, June 5, to say that "he had just stabbed his father to death in the family home", the prosecutor Francois Touron said in a statement. When police arrived at the home, they found the dead man's body with multiple knife wounds and arrested the son, who was under the influence of alcohol.
Already, the teen had shared a video of the crime scene on social media, Touron said. Police quickly took down the video, and a psychological support unit was set up to help the recipients, and their parents, with any trauma from viewing the gruesome footage. According to investigators the teenager, after drinking at a party, made his way to the home where his father had been living alone for weeks after his wife and their two children moved out.
He let himself in, took two knives from the kitchen, woke his father up in the bedroom, and stabbed him, the prosecutor said. The boy told police he had wanted to put an end to his father's violent behavior, triggered by drinking, which he said had caused much suffering for the family.
Last month, the boy's mother filed a domestic violence complaint against her husband and authorities opened a criminal investigation. She then left the family home with the couple's two children. An investigating magistrate late Monday charged the teenager with voluntary manslaughter and the publication of images related to a crime involving bodily harm.

The camp of the Eastern Security Network in Akabo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State has been dislodged. The Eastern Security Network is the paramilitary organization of the Indigenous People of Biafra, a pro-Biafra separatist movement. The operation was carried out by the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team led by DCP Abba Kyari and other security forces.
During the raid, a policewoman held captive was rescued while the camp went up in flames.
A South African woman has given birth to 10 babies, breaking the World Record held by Malian woman Halima Cisse who gave birth to nine children in Morocco in May. According to South African local media, Gosiame Thamara Sithole, 37, underwent a caesarian operation to give birth to seven boys and three girls making her the Guinness Record-holder for the most children birthed by one woman at once.
Reports further indicate that the Sithole and her husband Teboho Tsotetsi were expecting eight babies but two babies had apparently missed the scan due to the fact that they were tucked inside the wrong tube.
“I am shocked by my pregnancy. It was tough at the beginning. I was sick. It was hard for me. It’s still tough but I am used to it now. I don’t feel the pain anymore, but it’s still a bit tough. I just pray for God to help me deliver all my children in a healthy condition, and for me and my children to come out alive. I would be pleased about it,” Sithole said told local media.
Speaking to the Pretoria News, Tsotetsi said Sithole gave birth to their bundles of joy 29 weeks into her pregnancy and that her pregnancy was natural as she was not on any fertility treatment.
Sithole who also has six-year-old twins told journalists of the birth of the decuplets late on Monday night, saying he is 'happy' and 'emotional'. In May, a Malian woman gave birth to nonuplets in Morocco, breaking the record held by an American woman, Nadya Suleman, who gave birth to eight babies in 2009. Reports show that only two other sets of nonuplets have been recorded since the 1970s, but the babies all died within days.
A man in a crowd of onlookers slapped French President Emmanuel Macron in the face when he was on a walkabout in southern France on Tuesday, video showed. Macron's security entourage pulled the man to the ground and moved Macron away. Two people were arrested, BFM TV and RMC radio reported.
Prime Minister Jean Castex said the attack was an affront to democracy. Macron was on a visit to the Drome region in southeastern France, where he met restaurateurs and students to talk about returning to a normal life after the COVID-19 epidemic.
In a video circulating on social media, Macron, dressed in shirt sleeves, could be seen walking towards a crowd of well-wishers standing behind a metal barrier. He reached out his hand to greet one man, in a green T-shirt, with glasses and a face mask.
The man could be heard shouting out "Down with Macronia" ("A Bas La Macronie") and then he slapped Macron in the face. The man could also be heard shouting "Montjoie Saint Denis", the battle cry of the French army when the country was still a monarchy.
Two of Macron's security detail tackled the man in the green T-shirt, while another ushered Macron away. Macron remained in the vicinity of the crowd for a brief moment, gesturing to someone on the other side of the barriers before his security agents moved him away. The Elysee Palace said there had been an attempt to strike Macron, but declined further comment.
In 2016, Macron, who was economy minister at the time, was pelted with eggs by hard-left trade unionists during a strike against labour reforms. Macron described that incident as "par for the course" and said it would not curb his determination. Two years later, anti-government "yellow vest" protesters heckled and booed Macron in an incident that government allies said left the president shaken.
The identity of the man who attacked Macron, and his motives, were unclear.
Popular singers, Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay, have been involved in a fight in a salon in Lagos. In a video, which surfaced online, the duo was seen being pulled apart from getting physical at the salon as they threw altercations at each other. Seyi Shay had walked up to Tiwa Savage at the salon to say hi, but Tiwa was not having it. According to Tiwa Savage, Seyi Shay had no right to walk up to her to say hi, considering what she and Victoria Kimani had done to her in the past. Seyi Shay and Victoria Kimani had in 2019 released their covers of Kizz Daniel’s hit song, ‘phyuk You’, where they had both dissed Tiwa Savage.
In her lyrics, Seyi Shay said, “You know I’m not Savage, I pay my bills.” Victoria Kimani, in her part, accused Tiwa Savage of prostitution and blocking her from a show. Teasing Tiwa Savage, who is also known as ‘African Bad Gyal’, Kimani said, “Grandma African bad gyal, turning 45 and still claiming bad girl. You can block me from a show but you can’t block my blessings. We all know you selling pu*ssy and it’s so depressing”.
In the video, Tiwa Savage said she was not going to publicly respond to Seyi Shay or Victoria Kimani because she did not want to disgrace or embarrass them. She said, “Don’t come to me and think you can say hi with the dirty and disgusting spirit that you have. You think I have forgotten what you guys did? How many years ago? You and Victoria Kimani. You think I can forget?
“You did a whole song; you and that b*tch did a whole song. You went on interviews and said shit about me and I didn’t say nothing. “I have never slept with your man. I have never taken a job from you. I have never gone on radio to say shit. You don’t try and squash shit by saying hi. You try and squash shit by calling me on the phone and talking about it. In her defence, Seyi Shay responded, “The only reason why I greeted you is to try and squash all that is going on and to say sorry. I am not going to listen to this because you got your facts wrong.
“Tiwa, how about the things that you have done? You want me to open everything here? I am not like you. I am not going to do that. If you want to start acting up and acting like an “agbaya” right now, carry on.” However, Seyi Shay’s comment did not sit down well with Tiwa Savage as the latter dared her to spill the secrets she claimed she knew.
She said, “You’re the one that wants to open my ‘nyansh’. Please, open it. Your ‘nyansh’ is the dirtiest in this industry. You f*cking hoe, slut! Open it! There is nothing I have done in this life that I regret. Nothing! Everybody knows I am very proud of my shit.
“But you, look at you. You look half-dead. Look at your skin. You know what? For a clear skin, you need to mind your business. That’s what will clear up your f*cking ugly skin.” Tiwa Savage further denied ever gossiping about Seyi Shay or Victoria Kimani or trying to take jobs away from either of them. “I will say it to you. God should take my child that I birthed, God should take him if I have ever done or said anything about you or Victoria Kimani,” Tiwa said. She continued, “B*tch, I am made! I have money; I have nothing to take from you. I am not going to be hired for a show and say something else.”
Tiwa and Seyi then got physical as they called each other vulgar names and were prevented from hurting each other as other salon users pulled them apart.
A Nigerian man with the initials B.E.O was detained at the Istanbul Airport after he ingested 844 grams of a narcotic substance. The drugs he ingested were in 96 capsules and were picked out by the airport body scanners. The suspect, who came to Istanbul with the Ethiopia-Istanbul flight, was detained upon arrival at the airport.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged that Nigerian security agents are scheming to attack communities and cities in the South-East region of the country. It, therefore, warned youths in the states to wary and watchful henceforth, and be cautious of the security operatives. The pro-Biafra separatist group said according to the information it gathered, the attacks will start from Anambra State.
This was contained in a statement titled, ‘IPOB Uncovers Plot By Security Agents To Attack South East Cities,’ made available to SaharaReporters by the group's spokesman, Emma Powerful, on Tuesday.
“The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), wishes to place Ndigbo on alert of pending genocidal attacks by terrorists in the Nigeria security on different states in the South-East. “We gathered through intelligence that these vampires have concluded arrangement to launch attacks on Igbo communities beginning with Anambra State in the days ahead. “We, therefore advise especially Igbo youths who are the target of these evil agenda to be circumspect. They should be careful of their movements and be vigilant,” the statement partly read.
The secessionist group also condemned an oil magnate and entrepreneur, Chief Emeka Offor, for aiding the Nigerian security agents in attacking the group’s lawyer, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor on Sunday. It also accused Offor of scheming with the Nigerian Army to kill the personal aide to the lawyer.
“We also wish to place on record the abominable role of Chief Emeka Offor in the barbaric attack by the security agents against IPOB lawyer, Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, which claimed the life of his Personal Assistant. The Nigerian Army during the Sunday raid of Ejiofor's home at Oraifite arrested his PA, killed him and put him inside the car booth, then burnt him with the car.
“Barr. Ejiofor committed no crime other than being a counsel for IPOB. He does not deserve being hunted like a wild game. It's shameful that Emeka Offor, who should be a nearest kinsman, is rather the one conniving with the enemies to eliminate Barr. Ejiofor.
“We, therefore, want to make it clear to Emeka Offor that IPOB will hold him personally responsible should anything untoward happen to Barr. Ejiofor. President of Yoruba World Congress, Professor Banji Akintoye, has raised the alarm, saying that the attack on the people of Igangan, Ibarapa Zone in Oyo State by the alleged Fulani herdsmen is a declaration of war against the Yoruba people. Akintoye, in a statement made available to journalists on Monday by his Communications Manager, Maxwell Adeleye, called on Yoruba people to arm themselves with whatever they can lay their hands upon to defend their land against external aggression.
While saluting Rotimi Akeredolu, the Governor of Ondo State who doubles as the Chairman of South-West Governors Forum for his bold stand on the Igangan massacre, Akintoye called on the governors to put aside constitutional objections to defend their people.
The renowned historian said historically, the Yoruba people have never been conquered, while urging the younger generation of Yoruba people never to surrender to any form of intimidation or harassment.
He said, “The Alana and worldwide leader of Ilana Omo Oodua, Emeritus Professor ‘Banji Akintoye, on behalf of all patriotic and concerned Yoruba people, and in consultation, and collaboration with hundreds of self determination groups at home and in the Diaspora, express uttermost shock and horror at the news of the barbarous killings and destruction by Fulani and other terrorists upon our people at Igangan, Ibarapa area of Oyo State.
“While commiserating with our people in Igangan, we hereby issue a red alert to all Yoruba people at home and in the Diaspora. “It must now be clear to all Yoruba people of all classes and economic circumstances that war has come in a big way to our homeland. This war has been coming relentlessly for five years, but some of our own people failed to understand the full intent and impact of it. Some have thought the answer is to do one constitutional or political thing to Nigeria and the war would go away. But we must now all know that such propositions concerning Nigeria are blatantly unrealistic.
“And indeed these endanger Yorubaland, the Yoruba people and the Yoruba civilization by diverting the attention of our people from the manifest reality of our time. “We now call on all Yoruba people at home and abroad to focus on the danger of the moment in a manner that will be powerful enough to preserve our nation and civilization.
“First we call on our State Governors to push aside all the constitutional objections that have been constantly raised from certain quarters whenever our governors have taken measures to defend our people.
“We are particularly grateful to Governor Akeredolu of Ondo State and all other Governors who support him in the patriotic and manly statement that he has issued on the Igangan disaster.
“We repeat what we have said again and again that we will stand fully and powerfully behind our Governors in any measure that they may adopt to defend our people.
“We say to our state governors, your first constitutional duty is to ensure the security of life and property in our Yoruba states. In the face of that important task, constitutional and political finesse and obstructions are a danger to the lives and property of our people.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria has failed woefully to protect the Yoruba people, along with other indigenous peoples of the Nigerian South and the Middle Belt against these invading, marauding forces.
“In fact, when we consider all the behaviour of the federal government in the face of this danger to the indigenous peoples and citizens of Nigeria, we can not avoid the conclusion that the federal government is a sponsor of the terror in our land.
“The federal government started by saying and doing nothing about the terrorism while apparently instructing the security agencies to do nothing to confront the terrorism.
“The federal government persistently gives to the wide world a false picture of the situation by claiming that everything is a product of climate change even as the Fulani insistently issues statements that their mission is to conquer and subdue all the indigenous peoples of Nigeria and forcefully take their land for Fulani folks from all over West Africa. And even as international terrorist organizations such as ISIS, Al Qaeda and even Al-Shabab come to reinforce this Fulani terrorism all over Nigeria.
“While allowing the Fulani to move freely with and to import various categories of weapons into Nigeria, the Federal Government prohibited the possession of any kind of fire arms by any indigenous citizens of Nigeria, sending the police and army to seize such privately owned weapons including those for which these citizens had earlier been licensed for hunting and sports. “In the light of all the foregoing, we call on all our governors to stop letting objections by federal officials to obstruct the defence of our peoples.
“We call on all Yoruba people to rise up as one to defeat this danger. We Yoruba have a proud history that we have never been conquered.
“Let us not succumb to conquest now. Let us thank the countless young people of our land who have been standing up against the invasion of our land.
“But let us now rise to do more than merely thanking them and rise to give them all the support they need to clear our land of all terrorists of all kinds.
“Let us show to the world that though we are a civilized and life respecting people, we are nevertheless a people supremely capable of defending our people and our homeland.
“The persistent Ilana Omo Oodua calls to arms of all Yoruba people on their farms, hamlets, villages, towns, cities and other communities must now be urgently activated with communal self defence systems, around their abodes and places of work.
“You must urgently install early warning alarms; human, manual, scientific or spiritual.
“Also the traditional and hi-tech defensive mechanisms must come into place. Encourage and assist our young people to form dynamic teams that not only defend but attack the enemies wherever they have dug themselves into our forests and farmlands.
“Arm yourselves with whatever you can lay your hands upon, create or develop as individuals, and as communities to confront the enemy.
“Ensure they no longer succeed in their mission anywhere in Yorubaland. Our technology wizards are already putting together structures that will protect our land and destroy the enemy.
“To the elite of the Yoruba Nation, our businessmen and our professionals, we now appeal that you decide and take action to assist all the efforts outlined above.
“We remember with gratitude that when the COVID-19 crisis loomed all over the world in 2020, our businessmen quickly put together a fund amounting to billions of naira to help fight the dreaded virus.
“We call on you now to do the same, to set up a large fund for the defence of our homeland and help with your expertise to set up the disbursement, management and auditing of the funds.
“The important goal must be that the funds be made to reach as quickly and adequately as possible all defensive and offensive groups and teams that demonstrate capabilities to produce quick and abiding results.
“We are Yoruba and we will prevail in this crisis. And then we will go forth and manage our own sovereign Oduduwa Nation to the admiration of all mankind- a land of security, opportunity and confident hope in prosperity for all our people and all peaceful and enterprising foreigners who come to our land.”
The federal government announced an indefinite Twitter ban in Africa's most populous nation on Friday, June 4, 2021 and legislators have been inundated with phone calls and text messages from an army of young constituents, to intervene.
During plenary on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, Speaker of the House Femi Gbajabiamila said the committees have been tasked with determining "the circumstances of the decision by the Federal Government of Nigeria to suspend the operations of Twitter in Nigeria, and the legal authority for the ban on the operations of Twitter in Nigeria."
The Speaker added that “it is in service of our obligations under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and our moral duty to the Nigerian people" to investigate why the ban was issued.
According to the Speaker, “the House of Representatives recognises that Twitter, like other social media networks, is an important tool for communication and commerce in Nigeria, particularly amongst the younger generation who have used these networks for enterprise and innovation with great success.
“The committees are additionally mandated to invite the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed to brief the House of Representatives on the objectives, intent, and duration of the suspension on the operations of Twitter in Nigeria, and to report to the House within ten days.”
The ban has been widely condemned as a suppression of free speech in Nigeria and a contravention of section 39 (1) of the nation's constitution and Article 9 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights which Nigeria has ratified and domesticated.
A man has raised the alarm over the arrest of his friends in Ilorin, Kwara state for using microblogging and social networking service, Twitter despite being banned by the federal government. According to him, Police officers arrested his friends in Tanke Oke Odo, Ilorin after checking their phones and seeing the Twitter app.
The unidentified man contacted a Twitter Influencer @BlvckDotun, who then shared screenshot of their chat on the platform. He said that policemen are also checking phones of random people under Agege bridge in Lagos state to see if they have the Twitter app. Recall that on Saturday, Attorney General and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami, ordered the arrest and prosecution of any Nigerian seen using Twitter.

Fulani socio-cultural organization, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has described the 17 governors of the southern States as jokers for banning open grazing in their region. The National President of the Association, Alhaji Bello Bodejo, stated this in an interview with Daily Sun in Abuja.
“Governors don’t have the constitutional power to do what they have done. Though, they have the right to make pronouncements or suggestions, but it’s not binding to us because there is no constitutional backing to that. They are all jokers.”Bodejo said
According to Bodejo, Fulani herdsmen in the south have a right to remain there and do their businesses legitimately because they are Nigerians and should be allowed to trade peacefully anywhere in the country. The leader of the herdsmen group also distanced the group from last Sunday's attacks in Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State. He challenged the police and other security agencies to quickly investigate, apprehend and prosecute people found to be involved in the attacks to serve as a deterrent to others who might want to perpetrate such criminal act.
