Yakowa gave the instruction during the inauguration of the 54km drainage clearing as part of measures to protect the citizens from flood.
The governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Aboki Galadima, said the reintroduction of sanitary inspectors would check activities of environmental saboteurs.
He said the state government had embarked on various measures to ensure proper maintenance of the environment and promote healthy living.
“But the activities of residents who dump refuse into drainages, creation of illegal dumpsites and other environmental abuses are stalling the efforts the government to meet the MDGs on sanitation, ” he said.
Yakowa said the reintroduction of sanitary inspectors would make the state to sanction environmental defaulters appropriately.
Yakowa said the flood alert given by the Federal Ministry of Information was a signal to take proactive measures against possible flood across the 23 local government areas of the state.
He said the issue of flood was a collective responsibility and appealed to “people living in flood-prone areas to temporary relocate to avoid loss of lives and property. ”
In his speech, Alhaji Aminu Sani, the General Manager of KadunaEnvironmental Protection Authority, said the Ministry of Environment had finalised arrangements on how to restore the sanitary inspectors.
Sani urged residents to clean drains around their houses and added that “flood is responsible for collapse of buildings.’’
