Suspected hired assassins Friday night stormed the Umuagwoke, Amaigbo, Nwangele local government area of Imo State country home of the local council Chairma, Mr. Ezekiel Chukwukere, instantly shot about Five loyalists of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and injured many others.

Vanguard investigations revealed that PDP chieftains were in Chukwukere’s family home to finalize arrangements for the re-scheduled parliamentary elections when the armed hoodlums stormed the place.
A villager, who simply identified himself as Raphael, told Vanguard that the suspected assassins opened fire on the defenceless party chieftains, killing about five instantly, including a Pentecostal reverend.
“The suspected assassins opened fire on the PDP loyalists in the home of the local government Chairman, killing about five instantly, including a Pentecostal reverend, Pastor Jonathan Ibezim and an unidentified woman”, Raphael recalled with grief.
Answering another question, the villager reasoned that “the attackers were definitely there on purpose but behaved as if it was a robbery case”.
He further disclosed that “the rumour making the rounds in the area now is that more of the victims have since died from the wounds they sustained during the ugly incident”.
An old woman, who wept bitterly when Vanguard visited the area Saturday afternoon, wondered why politicians would engage hoodlums to fight their electoral processes.
“This is sheer murder of innocent people. Is this politics? Why would anybody kill his brother because of politics? The police should please fish out the assassins and prosecute them accordingly”, the old woman pleaded.
All attempts made to get the police angle failed as the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tambari Mohammed Yabo, failed to pick the five calls put across to him or returned the calls.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. linus Nwaiwu, an assistant superintendent of police (ASP), confirmed that there was such an incident but quickly added that he did not have the details as at the time of the call.
