Taraba State was plunged into mourning on Sunday following a tragic motor accident that claimed the lives of six members of the state chapter of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN).
According to reports, the accident occurred as the victims were travelling from Gembu, the administrative headquarters of Sardauna Local Government Council, to Jalingo, the state capital. They had been returning from a conference that concluded on Saturday in Gembu.
The victims, who were travelling in an 18-seat bus, met with the fatal accident, leaving the entire community in shock and grief.
Mourners, expressing their sorrow, described the incident as a "black Sunday" not only for the Christian community but for the entire state.
Governor Agbu Kefas extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, acknowledging that it was indeed a tragic day for Taraba. He emphasized the regrettable circumstances surrounding their deaths, especially as they were returning from the women's CAN Conference.
Governor Kefas assured the public of his administration's commitment to road safety, particularly in areas prone to accidents. He announced directives for local government chairmen to ensure road maintenance, proper traffic controls, signage, and basic repairs to prevent such tragedies from recurring in the state.
