A truck driver employed by ALACC MAC Group, located on Almadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, has been arrested and charged for allegedly stealing 2,137 litres of diesel valued at N3,419,200. The accused, 39-year-old Sunday Folorunsho, was taken into custody by the Police at the Bar Beach division, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The arrest followed an investigation into the theft of diesel, which Folorunsho was entrusted to deliver to customers. According to the police, Folorunsho allegedly diverted portions of the diesel for his own use over a period, thereby depriving his employers of significant revenue.
The alleged theft was uncovered during a forensic audit conducted by the complainant, which revealed discrepancies in the diesel supply records attributed to Folorunsho. Subsequent investigations were carried out by Inspector Patience Eguabor and her team, leading to the formal charges.
Folorunsho was brought before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on Lagos Island on two counts: conspiracy and stealing. Police counsel, Mr. Ben Ekundayo, informed the Court that the offence occurred on February 26, 2024, at ALACC MAC Group's premises. Ekundayo emphasized that Folorunsho had betrayed the trust placed in him by his employers by misappropriating the diesel.
The offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Folorunsho, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate M.E. Owunmi granted Folorunsho bail set at N1 million with two sureties in like sum, who must have three years of tax payments to the Lagos State Government. The case has been adjourned to June 11, 2024, for mention. Until bail conditions are met, Folorunsho will remain detained at the Ikoyi correctional facility.
This incident underscores the ongoing challenges businesses face with employee trust and asset protection. ALACC MAC Group, like many other companies, is working to ensure that such breaches of trust are addressed promptly to safeguard their operations and assets.
