Fourteen of the students of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara in Kogi State abducted from their school last Thursday night have regained their freedom.

They were kidnapped from their school by terrorists who invaded the school while they were preparing for their first-semester examination scheduled to begin today.

Police spokesman, SP William Aya, who confirmed the release of the students yesterday, said they were rescued by a combined team of security officials who worked with hunters.

The state government also confirmed the rescue of the students. According to the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kinsley Fanwo, the students were rescued from their abductors after security officials, vigilantes and hunters engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gunfight.

Fanwo said: “Many of the students’ kidnapped and even other people in captivity have been rescued and taken to medical facilities for proper attention, while many others were also rescued in the early hours of today (Sunday).”

He added: “Many of the students kidnapped and even other people in captivity have been rescued and taken to medical facilities for proper attention, while many others were also rescued in the early hours of today.

“Security officials are currently combing the forests to ensure all the kidnapped students are found and brought home safely. “In the gun battle to rescue our dear students, a hunter and a DSS official sustained injuries and they are currently receiving medical attention.”
