The criticism from Ossai Ovie Success, an aide to the governor of Delta State, towards singer Paul Okoye (also known as Rudeboy) centers around cultural and religious norms regarding respect during prayer. The issue arose from photos shared by Paul Okoye from his wedding introduction ceremony in Abia State, where he was seen wearing a red cap while being prayed for.
In many Nigerian cultures, especially in traditional or religious contexts, it is customary for men to remove their hats or caps as a sign of respect when prayers are being offered. This act is seen as a gesture of humility and reverence. The aide’s disapproval likely stems from the perception that Paul Okoye's decision to keep his cap on during the prayer was disrespectful to these cultural norms and traditions.
In a post shared on his Facebook page, Ossai said this smacks of disrespect to the elderly man that was praying for him. Ossai wrote
‘’This is a total disrespect for the elder praying .
An elder is praying for Rudeboy of P Square during his traditional marriage days back and he is putting on cap.
Out of respect for the elder and his prayer , he ought to have pull off his cap while receiving prayer .
The man is not just an elder but an inlaw to him.
Young guys of nowadays lack respect because of money in their possession.
This is disrespect to the elder , his prayer and also to culture.''
