Hawkers of the product interviewed said it seem as if sachet water producers are on strike as they no longer supply to the market.
Elizabeth Anayo, a store owner at Karu, said whenever she stops empty vans of sachet water sellers, the drivers always tell them that they are on strike.
One of the producers, who pleaded anonymity, however said that their union ‘Pure Water Sellers Association’ directed producers to stop business so that inspections can be carried out in their factories to assess the conditions there.
“We feel for our customers but there is nothing we can do, as the union is ready to fine any recalcitrant producer N50,000 for flouting their order,” the producer said.
