A late-night raid by suspected bandits on the staff quarters of Government Secondary School, Tsafe, in Zamfara State has left a retired teacher dead and three women, including his wife, abducted.
The victim, identified as Mallam Kabiru, a former secondary school teacher, was reportedly shot dead after resisting attempts by the attackers to abduct him during the invasion, which occurred on Saturday night.
According to the Zamfara State Police Command, the assailants stormed the school premises under the cover of darkness, targeting residential quarters within the compound.
“They wanted to abduct him, but he resisted. That was when he was shot,” said the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar. “His wife and two other women were taken away by the attackers.”
In response, Abubakar confirmed that police tactical units, along with other security operatives, have been deployed to track down the culprits.
“Troops have been mobilised and are currently on the trail of the kidnappers. We are making every effort to ensure the safe rescue of the victims,” he assured.
The attack adds to a growing wave of insecurity in Zamfara and other parts of the North-West region, where banditry and kidnappings have remained persistent threats despite ongoing security operations.
