``The attention of the State Police Command has been drawn to a rumour making the rounds in Kaduna State to the effect that there is or (there) will be crisis in the state, '' the command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Aminu, said in a statement.
``The rumour is totally unfounded, untrue, baseless and mischievous and should be ignored by the good people of Kaduna State.
`` The police and other security agencies are very much alive to their responsibilities and have effectively deployed their personnel to all the nooks and crannies of the state,`` the statement added.
The police assured residents and travellers passing through the state of the safety of their persons and property, it said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rumour had caused panic and confusion among residents, who withdrew their wards from schools, while most shops remained closed.
It would be recalled that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded by the road side between Mararabar Jos and Dankande village along Kaduna-Zaria expressway, leaving one person injured on Wednesday. (NAN)
