Nigerians may never know why Dana flight 992 crashed in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, on 3 June, killing more than 150 people on board and others on the ground, as the Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, yesterday, disclosed in its preliminary report that the Flight Data Recorder, FDR, was damaged and no data could be recovered from it during analysis in the United States.
AIB said only the Cockpit Voice Recorder, CVR, which contained a 31-minute conversation between the pilot and co-pilot was successfully analysed.
“The solid state based memory in the CVR was in good condition and retained 31 minutes of audio information. The digital tape based memory in the FDR succumbed to the post crash fire and melted, consequently no data could be recovered,” said Captain Muhtar Usman, AIB Commissioner, who released the report.
The inability to recover data in the FDR means that the families of the victims of the ill-fated plane may never know what caused both engines to pack up almost simultaneously.

BAD LEADERS OF NIGERIA. BLACK BOX THAT IS DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND FOUR TIMES AND MORE OF THE DANA CRASH HAS LOST IT'S STANDARD TOO IN NIGERIA CASE! THEY USED THE MONEY TO COMPENSATE THE FAMILIES INVOLVED TO BRIBE AND COVER UP THE TRUTH ABOUT THE WHOLE THINGS...WHAT MAKE THEM NOT TO HAS PERMISSION TO LAND A FAULTY PLANE BEFORE IT'S TOTAL FAILURE AND CRASH...I beg, if I talk reach tomorrow sef, who would hear? who would listen to react? all will still be the same. THEIR BLOOD IS ON THE HANDS AND HEADS OF ALL THAT HAS TWISTED ONE TRUTH OR THE OTHER IN THIS EVENT.

Popularly referred to as a "black box", the data recorded by the FDR is used for accident investigation, as well as for analyzing air safety issues, material degradation and engine performance. Due to their importance in investigating accidents, these ICAO-regulated devices are carefully engineered and stoutly constructed to withstand the force of a high speed impact and the heat of an intense fire. Contrary to the "black box" reference, the exterior of the FDR is coated with heat-resistant bright orange paint for high visibility in wreckage, and the unit is usually mounted in the aircraft's empennage (tail section), where it is more likely to survive a severe crash.
In as much as i personally do not trust the Nigerian Government and/or the management of the so called "Dana Air", i would like to point out that their is likely to be a case of malfunction or even wreckage to the "Black Box", as the this also depends on the level of wreckage of the plane itself.
So we shouldn't be to quick at pointing fingers.
ALL STILL THE SAME IN NAIJA, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
