ANOTHER batch of 439 soldiers have been trained to fight terrorism in Nigeria by the Nigerian Army CounterTerrorist and Counter-Insurgency (CTCOIN) Centre, located at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony of the soldiers on Tuesday, the commandant, Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Major-General Kenneth Osuji, said CTCOIN embarked on the training as a result of terrorism and insurgency in some parts of the country.

The commandant urged the soldiers to display professionalism whenever they were deployed in their places of assignments.

The CTCOIN director, Brigadier-General Tijjani Golau, said the soldiers had acquired the relevant skills that would enhance their performance in assigned tasks, commensurate with their new status as members of the Quick Response Group (QRG).

He listed some of the course contents to include identification of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), manning roadblocks and checkpoints, cordon and search techniques, search and arrest procedures for both male and female suspects, unarmed combat and presentations on dynamics of terrorism and insurgency as they relate to Boko Haram, among others.

“Some of the innovations introduced in the course curriculum include attacking terrorist camps, winning the hearts of the local populace and the roles of junior commanders in combating terrorism.

“On the whole, the graduating participants are eminently qualified and can be deployed to carry out counterterrorism and counter-insurgency tasks in any part of the country,” he said.
