Susan Eneanya, 32, was arrested recently at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos when she tried to smuggle hard drugs hidden in the soles of a pair of shoes out of the country.

The substance, which tested positive to methamphetamine, was discovered during the screening of passengers waiting to board an Emirate Airline flight. The consigment weighed 900 grammes.

The NDLEA Airport Commander, Hamza Umar, confirmed the arrest. He said, “Officers at the screening area were on routine search when 900g of methamphetamine hidden in the sole of a pair of shoes were found in Eneanya’s possession. Investigation has commenced and she will soon be charged to court.

A native of Anambra State, an unhappy and contrite Eneanya regretted her actions. She said, “I did not know that things will turn out this way. I was given the assurance that the drug will not be detected and that everything would be fine. The most painful thing is that I cannot understand why I agreed to smuggle the drugs.

“I made a big mistake. I was told to ingest the drug, but I was afraid so it was hidden instead inside the sole of one of my shoes and I felt it would not be detected. I used to sell drinks in Lagos before I travelled to Italy in 2007. Unfortunately, I was deported in 2011. That was the beginning of my frustration in life. I came back with nothing and the frustration made me to smuggle drugs,” she lamented.

The Chairman/Chief Executive of the Agency, Ahmadu Giade said that drug control is one battle that must be won in the interest of our collective peace and development, he called on every Nigerian to join in the campaign to make Nigeria drug-free. This suspect would have brought the image of the country to disrepute if she was caught abroad,” Giade stated.
