They are deaf and they will continue to take the risk. The punishment is not severe enough  in Nigeria. We should not bother ourselves with this bum now he is going to be fed for free in jail for some time at taxpayers' money. .

Exactly. Many will continue to go on deaf ears. Some go to jail becuz of a foolish decision but Many don't mind going to jail becuz everything is structured it provides so much like 3 free meals, a roof, a bed, board, etc and dont have to make any choices or responsibilities for yourself unlike the outside world. Some ppl like that. Esp. struggling ppl. Some will continue to commit crime just to go back to jail. There are also some very luxurious 5star prisons like in Syria, Austria Norway, etc. Many things are provided even indoor soccer, gym and stylish cells. Many criminals don't care to go to jail for the free provisions.
