The state of Maryland which is the sub of Washington voted for it. Just like Abuja was donated, Washington DC was donated by the states of Virginia and Maryland. During summer, the state of Maryland passed the same sex marriage law and some people were against it and were able to collect enough signatures to put it in a referendum (vote), hence question 7 which asked voted if they were for or against same sex marriage. If more people would have voted against it, that law would have been dead but since more poeple voted for it, the law will move on, effective january 1, 2013. Just like in Nigeria, state laws have nothing to do with the Federal Governement. You need to check your facts and come correct next time around (I voted, was born in DC and still live in DC so I know what the deal is).
