Former head of state and presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 elections, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday gave out her daughter, Halima in marriage to Alhaji Babagana Muhammed Sherriff.
The Emir of Bornu, Alhaji Haliru Dantoro, who stood in as the bride’s father, gave out Buhari’s daughter after the payment of a golden coin, equivalent of N200,000 as bride price. Former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sherriff, received the bride on behalf of the groom. The wedding fatiha was conducted by the chief imam of the Yahaya Road Jumat Mosque at the same venue in the presence of Gen. Buhari and invited dignitaries, including Senator Kanti Bello, Gen. Buba Marwa and governors of Kano, Borno, Kaduna states, and the deputy governor of Nasarawa State, under a very tight security. Speaking to journalists at the venue of the reception, which was opened to men alone, General Buhari expressed satisfaction that his daughter, who is a lawyer, got married. He advised the couple to continue to be patient with each other and remain prayerful in all their endeavours.
