Julius Berger Nigeria Plc on Thursday handed over a multi-billion Naira ``Nigeria at 50’’ pavilion to the FCT Administration as part of its corporate social responsibility to the country. Mr Zubair Bayi, the Executive Director, Administration, of the company, who performed the hand-over in Abuja, said the structure would provide numerous assistance in terms of services and facilities to the country.

Bayi said the donation was as a result of the pledge made by the company in early 2010 when Nigeria celebrated the 50th Anniversary as an independent nation.

``The pledge to design, construct and donate this exhibition pavilion was made by the company when Nigerians were gearing to celebrate the 50th Anniversary as independent nation,’’ he said.

According to him, the anniversary by historical coincidence marks the 40th year of Julius Berger in Nigeria.

``In accordance with our company’s corporate social responsibility, we offered to provide numerous assistance in terms of services and facilities to the country and the Presidential Committee on Nigeria at 50 Anniversaries,’’ Bayi said.

He added that the structure, with a net floor area of 1,037 square metres, was built in line with the Julius Berger Plc’s tradition of high standards of quality, safety and excellence.

He said the structure could be used for cultural displays, cultural exchanges by diplomatic and other foreign communities residing in Nigeria, seminars, workshop and receptions, among others.

Sen. Bala Mohammed, the FCT Minister, represented by Mr Adamu Isma'il, the Executive Secretary, FCDA, commended the company for redeeming the pledge it made three years ago.

Mohammed said the pavilion, which was dedicated to serve as a centre for creation of cultural awareness, civic education and international exchange, would also boost the tourism potentials of Abuja.

He urged all embassies and missions in Abuja to take up exhibition stands in the pavilion as well as adopt squares in the out-door space to plant trees to represent their various countries.

``The pavilion, which will display Nigeria’s arts and culture as well as those of the international community in the FCT, is being located on the Peace Park,’’ Mohammed said.

Ms Olajumoke Akinjide, the Minister of State of the FCT, also said the administration would put adequate measures in place to realise the purpose for which the centre was established.

Represented by Mr Adeniyi Olagunju, her Special Assistant, Youth and Culture, Akinjide urged international organisations to partner with the FCT in building a mega city.
