Barely 72 hours after a major assassination scare on Edo state governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and which jolted the entire political circle in the state, more revelations emerged yesterday on how the embattled Comrade Governor narrowly escaped death in the hands of an unidentified young man in his office last Monday.

The latest development came on the heel of a report indicating that over 100 armed policemen from neighbouring Ondo and Delta states have been drafted to beef up security around the governor and members of his family.

It would be recalled that following an alleged assassination attempt on the life of the governor, some principal security personnel attached to him, including the CSO, ADC and the Escort Commander, were hurriedly removed last Wednesday.

The shake up also affected other rank and file within the Government House, thereby raising tension within the entire security network of the state police command.

Special adviser to the governor on Public Affairs and Strategy, Mr. Eric Osagie, who confirmed the development, said it was a strategic overhaul.

Saturday Champion reliably gathered that the governor was forced to relieve his security personnel of their duties after he narrowly escaped death in the hand of one unidentified man in his office last Monday.

Source close to the governor told Saturday Champion that it was divine intervention that saved the governor.

"Since the past few weeks, there had been some sorts of security breaches within the governor’s office, which raised serious question on the safety of the governor and members of his family.

"Apart from the spiritual aspect of the matter, which forced the governor to change many things within the Government House complex, events the past few weeks have really showed that it could have been better the man stay without any security around him so he can entrust his life into the hands of God, his creator, than relying on overzealous security men that were busy doing nothing.

"After the other incident when one woman seized the governor within the Government House complex, last Monday, another incident happened that really made the governor to believe on the security report and insinuation around him.

"Despite the heavy presence of armed mobile policemen and other plain clothe security men at the first and second gates leading to the Government House, a young man freely walked into the office of the governor.

"Just as the young man was heading to the private office of the governor unchallenged, the governor emerged on his way to an assignment inside the Government House complex. The man on recognizing the governor just pounced on him.

"It took several minutes before the security men were able to rescue the governor from the grip of the man. It was a fearful development and the governor was terribly afraid and annoyed.

"There are so many other things happening within the governor’s office that suggested that all is not well with the entire security apparatus and coupled with the fearful security report at the disposal of the governor, he had no other option than to kick those guys out," one of the aides to the governor told Saturday Champion.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 100 armed mobile policemen from nearby Ondo and Delta states have been drafted to the state to beef up security around the governor.

It was gathered that out of the total sum, about 15 would be posted to replace those hurriedly withdrawn from the convoy of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Zakawanu Garuba, last Wednesday at the wake of the incident at the Government House.

"Others would be shared between the office of the governor and that of his wife, including both official and private residence," a source at the office of the state commissioner of police said.

As at the time of filing this report, no arrest had been made in connection with the alleged plan to assassinate the governor.

Inside source said the alleged plan may be carried out in a rowdy session that will make it look like a robbery attack during one of the engagements of the governor outside his office or outside the state capital.

"We have every reason to thank our God for his mercy on the governor. The alleged plan, if it had come through, would have looked like robbery attack with great compromise from his security personnel and the governor would have been killed.

"The governor himself was briefed on the plans and that was why he promptly acted and changed his security status" a source said.
