A deadly robbery gang in Lagos, it seems, is set to change the norm of taking their victims and security agents by surprise, as they have given notice of their heinous acts before striking.
At Ronke Street, Ijeshatedo, Lagos and its environs, residents are in a state of panic over a letter written to them by armed robbers alerting them of their intention to raid the area.
According to The Sun, copies of the letter were conspicuously pasted on the wall of some of the buildings in the middle of the night. Part of the letter read: “We will pay you people a visit soon. Be prepared for us.”
The development has led some of the residents to upgrade the security features of their homes, while some of them have even fled the area.
From the account of some of the residents, armed robbers have terrorized them on several occasions. One of them who was yet to recover from the shock of a previous experience said: “Late last year, they visited my house heavily-armed. They took every valuable thing in the house and left. They were about eight of them. The next day, the same group of people came to the next compound and robbed the residents. When we called the police, all they did was to arrest the ladder the robbers used to climb and promised to investigate the matter. Till date, nothing has happened.” However, the Lagos state police said people should not panic as they were on top of the situation.
First of all, I apologise for not being around when you visited and left a note.
You see I am a very busy mother who leaves the house very early and often times do not get back till very late. My husband also has to get to work a long way away so he tool leaves early. So I was wondering if you could call again. I hate having visitors who make time to visit us - only to discover we are not at home when they call. It can be frustrating! and tiresome But that is not only problem. You see I have a mad brother at home and all he does throughout the day is sit at the gate with a loaded gun. Yes a loaded gun! You see he is so mad he thinks armed robbers are coming to steal his hard earned cash. I have convinced him no such thing will ever happen - but he won't believe me!
So you see I don't want you to get hurt because my mad brother will shoot at anything or anybody he does not know! And his gun has real bullets. So Armed Robber if you visit us whilst my husband or I are out my mad brother could kill you and we don't want this to happen. So is it possible you drop another note giving me your handset number - just so that I can let you know when we are available at home for you to visit. It may have to be a Sunday afternoon. Is that okay with you?
If this will waste your time, because I know you are probably busy visiting other households - you can drop your handset number off with the local police as I live not too far from a police station. Just show them this note and I am sure they will be obliged to help you. You never know, the Nigeria police are becoming kinder and they may offer you a drink (soft drink of course) to cool your nerves - sorry I mean to say, cool you down - the weather is very hot nowadays.
So the choice is yours. You can get shot by my mad brother - or you can drop your number off with the police. I look forward to hearing from you.
P.S. I will leave this note where you left yours.
SIGNED. A Lagos state resident.
